8.0L hino diesel, that could be interesting, but looks like a lot of concept stuff in there.

I've never heard of Hino?

But why would they put an 8L inline diesel in there? To on purposely make the truck a mile long? Or add another 500 pounds of uneeded weight? If dodge, chevy, and ford all make do with sub 6.7 liter diesels, I don't see why toyota needs an 8 liter monster. Perhaps to make up for a bad engine design?

Hino is Toyota's truck line...

The 8.0l size is due to it being a medium duty engine (think DT466 here...)

It's just a project/show truck. An experimental if you will.

Plus I wouldn't exactly use Toyota and bad engine design in the same paragraph.

For American auto companies they better hope it is only a concept. If Toyota enters the BIG TRUCK market it will really wake up Ford, GM, & Dodge.

Ah didn't know that. But still seems a bit excessive for a truck that still looks pretty small

i still hate the rear end gear case on the yoda's they just look so weak. look at the axel housing in the pics. they may not be but it just looks it. i don't think that would take off to fast in the states but if they made a few changes it might be a player. imo.

Wow, I think the Tundra Dually threads and price of diesel threads are having a showdown to see which one can have the most threads about the same topic posted on this message board.

the rear end is odd. Even dodges have differentials with finned covers now

It'll become reality someday, just don't know when.

All I have to say is, that is one ugly truck. Hate the interior style, but I do like the interior of the bed. Really dislike the rear fenders that cover up the dually wheels, good gosh that has horrible style. Reminds me of the Flare/Step Side Tundra's they used to sell for a while, just god awful.

Now the Hino Diesel sounds nice though. I'd like to check out the specs on that. Wonder if it's a current production motor.

but I'd say there is too much concept/project aspects about the truck to determine what is real and not.

I was reading in another thread that it has 300 horsepower and 600 ft lbs. Pretty weak for an 8.0L engine

Yeah, but those are just numbers. If it is a medium duty truck motor, it has probably been detuned, kinda like the Powerstroke and Duramaxes (Don't know about the Cummins) that are in medium duty trucks usually have 50 less hp and torque (sometimes more).

Am I the only one that sees this truck as real ugly, not saying that because it is not a Ford it is just butt ugly.

The cummins in the F-650 has been detuned to 325HP for a certain tranny, while the others are 300HP or less

The DMAX is detuned to 300 HP and 610 torque.

Odly enough I don't see the PSD 6.4 as an option for medium duties right now
