a lot of water from one side of the muffler

I am getting a lot of water coming out the drivers side muffler
i started to try to do the drivers side head gasket, it look like i could be
remove it without taking off the intake but it wouldnt come off
i called around and all said pull the intake
i took off the top part of the intake
but again i couldnt get the bottom part of the intake off
i pulled every screw i could see what am i doing wrong
also i havent messed with the passanger side head i just removed the bolts that secure it to the intake
the motor did run before all this but with a huge missfire

im thinking if i should just do a carb 302 because its a body droped truck meaning it has air ride and i would like to get rid of all that wiring

4.2s are notorious with the head gaskets, but i think you'll have alot of problems trying to switch to an older drivetrain. It would include alot of fabbing and multiple electronic headaches. I haven't personally worked on a 4.2, but if it's like the older blocks i have torn down those gaskets can bond the intake on pretty securely. You might want to get a haynes or chilton book (15-20 bucks) and see what you're doing wrong. Good luck!

Either way, it will take a lot of time and a lot of money to convert to an older engine. You will need to make your own engine mounts, find a different tranny and adapt, or make your own crossmember for it. New driveshaft, and not to mention all the wiring you will need to do...I wouldn't even want to think about that part of it...

You need to pressure test the cooling system to check for leaks. You may have more on the drivers side because the pipes are longer and have more bends to hold condensation when it cools off because you have to clear the gas tank on that side.

There is a pressure pump that you connect to the coolant tank where the radiator cap is and you pump it up to about 16lbs and see if it holds pressure. If not, then you can track down where the pressure is going from there.
