For the "tornado" thing to really work, they'd have to install waaaay down in the individual intake runners. Lots of new head designs incorporate swirl inducing elements...just in the last inch or two of the intake path. Swirling air up behind the air filter won't do jack. By the time the air hits the throttle plates the flow is going to behave just as it did without the $50 gizmo. Also....in carbureted vehicles you want a nice straight laminar flow passing your venturi so they'll work as designed...not swirling turbulence.
Remember, if someone wants to "prove" their product works, they can usually come up with some VERY specific conditions/ circumstances where it might make a slight difference, which is all they'll advertise. They won't bother telling you about the 99% of others where the product won't do squat.
lol suger pills actually make you feel better, more energy= feeling better, even if it is for about 10 minutes.... but i know people that swear by Tornados, i even read an unbiased news article on them that recomended them...
Hey I have a 76 250 Custom and I only get 6mpg if I'm lucky. What can I do? I know the timing is off, that would be my first guess (well if that has anything to do with it anyway) 390 bored .40 pretty much just K&N air filter
PVC valve. Just changed mine this weekend. Drove about 40 miles on the truck since on the tail-end of a tank of gas and noticed my mileage already improved.
Dont know if you already tried it but for 3 bucks you cant beat it.
Check your fuel filter and change it if it's been over 20k also. they do get clogged faster than you think.
Adipose
These threads are beat down... No offense but there are hundreds of these gas mileage topics. It's really a shame the price of gas, yada yada, but instead of trying to fine tune a heavy, brick shaped truck with a 26 year old motor in it, maybe it's time for a daily driving four banger.
I have a 78 that get ~19mpg, but it is a summer Sunday driver, my daily driver is an Escort, ~38mpg. It's not too hard to run the truck now that my gas money is stretched out with the scort.
Just my $.02.

I'd just like some help getting around 15-20mpg in my truck. When I drive it I can almost feel my wallet getting smaller... 6mpg is just too low. I know I should be getting better, PVC valve? Never heard of it. I do have a four banger but thats besides the point. Camping spots aren't exactly down the street around here.
I'm sorry, but I gotta say I (and I'm sure others) are pretty tired of the "get a 4 banger" comment whenever someone asks about better gas mileage. First of all, not everyone even has the space for another car. It also requires registration fees, maintenance and repair costs, and insurance costs to add a second car. Some people may require parking fees in larger cities, or they're not allowed one at all. That's going to suck up the savings on gas pretty quickly. That and some really just have to do with what they have.
There are a plethora of For Sale signs on SUVs and trucks on the sides of the roads because of the gas mileage versus cost issue. There are plenty of people on here, myself included, that don't want our vehicles to join that group. If we can figure out how to get the biggest bang for our buck at the pump, then it was worth our time.
True, there are plenty of threads on the forums about getting better gas mileage, and I would definitely recommend using the search feature for this. Seeing that the post before yours was 4 years old, you did search, but there are dozens of gas saving techniques mentioned, so I would be sure to read through more than one next time.
A PCV valve is usually on the end of a vacuum line. It's a small fitting that goes into a valve cover.
Go to RockAuto Auto Parts and put in your vehicle and engine, then put PCV into the search box (or go down to Emissions and then PCV Valve). It'll show you pictures of what they look like.
Secondly, you might be better off posting this in a forum for your engine. If you have the 390 V8, other people with 390 V8s might be able to tell you better where your PCV valve is than people in a forum for straight six engines.

I never really got bad mileage but i saw the most improvement in mileage and performance by scrapping my carb and getting a new one along with a full tune up. It's worth the money for new plugs, wires, rotor, cap, pcv and carb rebuild/replace. Don't forget to grease the pi$$ out of the joints including the drive shafts and keeping your tranny, rear end and front diff. with fresh lube. It all adds up. With trucks as old as some of the ones on here you really can't afford to over look anything. Driving like a little old lady is a good cure for the gas whoas...you'll pay alot for a lead foot.

Moderator dude? If you're talking to me, that was not really called for. I wasn't telling you off for posting in an I6 forum. I was simply bringing it to your attention so that you could better find the information that you're looking for. A V8 forum is going to have people that have dealt with gas mileage issues with your particular engine.
I'm trying to find someone to give me the details on proper timing, to start there with improving mileage. I have a 96 F150 short bed 5 spd manual trans 2X and it pulls a trailer OK but the mileage is horrible.
I tried timing it but didn't know about the "spout", an electrical 2 wire connector that is supposed to be disconnected while timing. I don't know where it is. Someone said, "next to the module" but I don't know where that is either. Perhaps someone could post a pic or a better discription? Thanx
