And your low miles on it are also a reason. As the truck breaks in the mileage will improve a bit. But if you usually do around town driving, then yes thats about the mileage you can expect.

Just completed a 500 mile trip from D.C. to PA this weekend. It was my first long trip with my new 08. Going up I averaged 13.66 and on the way back 16.8. At one point I was avg 17.3. Not to shabby for the truck not being broken in. I was not pulling anything and had 2 adults, one child and a weiner dog. I have the F-350 Lariat, Long Bed, 4x2, with 4.10 gears. No regen yet either! I started to use Diesel Kleen at my first fillup. So far so go.

mine gets any where from 10-12 hwy/ town not cool!! but waht is worse is towing 5-6000 lb trailer at 55-60 mph I'm getting 7-9 mpg way not cool. What makes it worse is every once and a while it while get around 16-18 rare but it had happened. once even got 19-20 mpg (cruise set on 70 mph for 300 miles), all hand calculated. Then in goes into active regen all the time. 2008 f-350 lariat crew cab long box auto 4x4 3.73 gears and 20" wheels. oh and i have 15,650 miles on it milage has not improved much if any. Just frustrated because my old 2001 7.3 liter powerstroke with banks power pack had more power towed better and got way way better milage ( to the tune of 18- 20empty and 17-18 towing 15-17000 lbs, it just really did not care if it was loaded or not. but it got crashed so there you go.)

My 08 F-350 6-speed dually gets 17-19 mpg empty while stock, and 20+ with the 430 hp SCT tune on.

Best way I've found to get good MPGs is to keep the boost below 10psi.

yes , these are the pinnacle of suck-y mpg trucks, CALL THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE HOTLINE, give them an earful, maybe it will go to the top so something will get done.
They'll tell you there are not rated, I tell them the one I traded in was better, I called my congress women and senator, and told them....since the automaker is going backwards with an "envirnmental engine" there's no coservation being gained at all, rather the opposite, yet the 1985 trash trucks in our town PUKE black smoke....LOL

Is the 20+ what your lie o meter says, or hand calculated? Tuners on the older trucks would make the lie o meter WAY optimistic. If this is hand calculated, I'm buying a 6 speed!

My 08 6.4l LB,CC dually set up for towing weighed in a 8714LBs and with wife and self along with 'Camping stuff " in the bed (generator 130lbs) weighs in at over 9200lbs. We do 12/13 around town and that is not bad at all for yanking around 9200lbs. We have seen 16/and 17's on the interstate not towing. With 5th wheel attached we are over 22K and on the last trip averaged 10.3mpg..the truck has 95 hours on the engine. I do not think that is at all bad what with the new emission and fuel standards.. This is a BIG truck..not a Honda Civic (we have one of those also)

On my 08 Crew CAB short bed, with 3000 miles on it, I get 20.5 at 70mph with the cruise control on.....However, when I am towing my TT, my mileage drops to 10.5 to 11.5,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,City driving: about 15.0 empty......All hand calculated which is pretty close the lie-o-meter.

Below 10...that's crawling

6 speed and 3.73 is the answer

that's a hell of a tune, do you run that most of the time?

I'm on my third Ford Super Duty towing the same camper, a Alfa Toyhouse. Fully loaded we are at 17,500 lbs. My 1st truck was a 2000 f-350 drw cc w/7.3 & 3.73 gears. We would avg. 9.5-10.5 w/trailer & whole crew, empty we would get 14-16. Next was an 05 f-35 cc drw w/6.0 & 3.73 gears, pulling the same camper our mpg was the same. Now I just took the first trip in our 08 f-450 6.4 w/4.88 gears & loaded we got 8.5-9.0 mpg. Empty we have seen 12.5-13.5, so all in all I'm pretty happy & at the same time I am finally towing legal w/capacity to spare. Also this truck is 800 lbs heavier. So considering the differences & the fact that this is the nicest of the 3 I have owened, turns better, rides better, quieter & looks great(dark copper) as long as it doesn't break down I'll keep it.
