Smile Radio speed control

Can anyone explain the radio speed control that you can access thru the menu button? My neighbor asked me and I am unsure about it; I know the concept of how it works, but he is asking about the volume adjustment. I told him to put it in mid-range, #5, but he is still uncertain. Thanks!

It's how much you want the radio volume to incrase as you speed up and the road and wind noise increases. There is no wright way to set it, it is personial preference.

My preference is just just turn it to 0 (off). Just like said above it is right or wrong setting. It is kind of like bass. Some like more, some like less.

Sure...simply, the higher the number you set it at, the more "sensitive" it becomes, and the higher the volume will go when it activates.

There are at least two ways for this adjustment to function. The inexpensive way is to tie the volume boost into the speedometer. The faster you go the more the volume increases. A better but more expensive way is to place a microphone in the cabin and actually measure the ambient noise and adjust the volume boost accordingly. This would factor in blower speed, window/sunroof opening, outside noise, etc. I'm not sure which method Ford uses for input but it is probably the speedo as this is what is common at that price point.

I can't tell any difference either. I didn't know mine had it until about 6 months ago when I discovered it. It does make a hugh difference on my BMW motorcycle but it needs to with the wind noise.

On my 01 I set the SSV to 3 and it worked well. On my 06 I have the SSV set to 6. You don't tend to notice the volume difference until you come to a stop and the volume quiets down or if you have the volume up a bit(I usually try and keep the regular volume set at 3.5, but sometimes a lot louder) and you accelerate hard to above 60-70 and the volume will start to jump at you.

I have mine set on 6, and its ok, except when I have the windows open. Of course it depends who is on the radio too. On a recent 600 miler, (hunting trip) it was "Route 66" traveling music, Southern rock, bass cranked up. Pulling into a parking lot I woke up a couple of bikers who were gassing up about 100 yards away. Wheee!!!!! My wife says I am quite the redneck, even tho I grew up in the North.

Rednecks aren't area specific, they are everywhere. The only difference is that we are proud of it in the south.

Really started to pay attention to mine tonight and found it to be quite refined and almost assuredly linked to ambient noise rather than speed. My truck's rumble is fairly loud with the Magnaflow and the radio definitely compensates for that. It also takes care of moon roof open or closed. Overall, I am pretty impressed.

That's funny, on my 06 it only changes the volume every 25 mph. 25 50 75 never got it to 100
