The Cobra Is Alive
After two months, three harness, lots of trial and error she fired up and roared today. that is my 01 4.6 cobra motor. Damn I'm all smiles!!!
Im posting this because I know there are a few of you out there doing the same or similar motor. I would like you to learn from my mistakes. I did it the hard way not knowing how or what to do to make it run. I thought if I used all the parts out of a mustang It would be easy not true well maybe it would be
if they all came from exactly the same car. That didnt happen.
Im using
01 cobra motor
01 cobra fuel tank
01 cobra dash
01 cobra motor harness
01 bullit engine bay harness ?????? runs but have to modify
had to have security system (pats) removed from computer
Im happy with what Ive got but if I had to do it all over I would do this.
Theres a place called the detail zone that re-flashed my computer 350.00 ouch
he also makes a harness for this install 850.00 more ouch but it will save you alot of time and frustration

Keith, congratulations! There is nothing like the sound of success. On a much less significant note I remember the feeling of firing up my 90 ranger after transplanting a 4.0 automatic (it was built with a 2.9 stick). Did not even pull in a code!
Your work on all fronts is an inspiration to all of us. Keep it up!

Anyway, congrats to you. Been waiting for the word and share your enthusiasm as I too got my Falcon started for the first time yesterday. It will be very helpful to learn from you on the harness issues as I have heard that that engine is a good cantidate for the 63 Falcons. I cant wait to see the truck in finished form. Kudos

We ran into that problem when my friend installed a Supercharged 4.6 out of a Lightning truck into his 50 Ford coupe. It wouldn't fire or start or even get fuel. He replaced several computer modules and nothing worked. After having several Ford guru technicians looking at his car, he did like you said and had this guy program his computer. It did cost some money, but it did dial in the motor and it started up. I'm no computer person or good with electrical things for that matter. I'd love to run a newer type engine with the fuel injection, etc, but I don't want even want to mess with the wiring and computers involved. I know your putting a lot of time and effort in that truck of yours, and at times it gets frustrating, but it'll all pay off when it's done. It's going to be sweet truck. And you know what they say, " A Cobra's venom is deadly"
