old wrecker body questions
I just got back from a local scrap yard ( I dropped off an old parts truck) and in there was a 60-66 GMC with a home made wrecker bed with an oooooollllldddd holmes hand crank wrecker winch and small a frame bolted to the newwer bed. It was mostly there but in kinda rough shape. How much would be a good price to offer. I have a buddy with a 48 3/4 ton who might want it.

I'm with truxx. offer them it's value in scrap. The old units are still pretty easy to find (easier than a good ole Ford truck that aint been all chopped up and rusted to nothin). I saw a newer unit that would of been perfect for a long WB F-600 or F-700 up a while back, and it was only $1500. It was complete, and functional, and was hydraulic, so an out of date unit that may not be legal for use other than show might be able to get pickked for dirt cheap.

I am somewhat familiar with the old Holmes hand winches. They are similar to the Weaver winches. A few Weavers sold recently on Ebay for $300 or so. I would offer $300-ish and go from there. I would be VERY interested in seeing some pictures of what you found. I added a link to see the hand winch I have in my gallery. To my surprise, it is a combination of Weaver and Holmes parts - a lot of Arkansas engeneering on that one.
