new 6.4 engine in 3300 miles
I went to the dealer yesterday and picked up my 08 Lariet with the new engine.I ask ford to replace the truck because the service dept. has had it more than me.They have taken the truck apart twice.I must say though the service teck has done a good job. They have had the truck for 28 days.I like the 08 Lariet but still wish ford would do the right thing and replace the truck.I told them I have paid $40,000+ for a remanufactured truck not a new one.I do not think I am being unreasonable for a 24 year customer. they however do.With all that said,I think the 08 superduty is the most comfortable, strongest truck on the market.

As much as i love Ford the dealers can be a real SOB! But im sure there are alot of good salesman that take care of their customer. not like that here in Detroit. and for really struggling, they don't seem to even wanna strike a deal up. kinda the - take it or leave it approach. goodluck with ur truck!

I would think that the 6.4 will just have to have bugs worked out, like the 6.0 did in the early years.
But with major, engine replacement type issues, we may look back at the 6.0 as the good old days (post debugged days of course), as was done with the 7.3 from the 6.0.
I hope you're mistaken... I was optimistic that the 6.4 would be my next power plant in my final tow vehicle purchase, for my future retirement travels.
It could be that Ford pulled this engines out only to diagnos what exactly is causing the sound that the consumer is complaining about, not so much that there is necessarily anything seriously wrong with it. It would be easier to do the necessary research on a work bench... At least I hope that's all it is.

Tis best to ID any potential probs now, before getting blind sided later. If there is a weak link, I'm sure Ford will do the right thing and rectify it. They always have, as long as some knucklehead didn't create their own problems buy loading some kind of 15,000 hp tuner into the works. Then they seem to deny warranty. Rightfully so I might add.
If there are possible failures down the road on legitimate runners, rest assured, Ford wants to know about that as soon as possible. I'm sure they have that engine torn down right now, and are trying to determine this currently.
Just because they pulled and kept the engine doesn't mean there is a chronic problem. Just that they want to check things out to make sure that there isn't, IMO.
