Cool running issiues

I have a 1990 bronco 2 when i bought it it had some lifters tapping so i parked it for a while , starting it perodicaly when i finally decided to break down and replace the lifters it would turn over and try to start but would not run. acted like it wasn`t getting any gas but checked my fuel pressure which was perfect . i went ahead and replaced the lifters , rebuilt the distributor , replaced plugs and wires and it still won`t run .. it tries to crank up and run but unless i constantly pump the throttle it won`t even attempt to run , thought maybe the fuel pump had gone so i replaced that , still no luck , now after replacing thwe fuel pump the fuel rail does not seem to be holding pressure and it still won`t run , tried replacing the pressure regulator , (took it off of my other bronco which runs) still no luck .

anyone got any ideas i`m about at my wits end trying to figure this out.

Did you get it running yet? I have 90 bronco II and have been thru the 2.9 engine. I might be able to shed some light on the subject. Keep Em' Twistin'! Bob B

ok, did you seal the back part of the intake? there's a "gap" back there that you seal with silicone. If you didn't then you have a major vacuum leak. #2 did you pre pump the lifters? they might not be totally pumped up. when my 2.9 had a plugged oil pick up screen, it would dump oil pressure, and tick like crazy until the point at full throttle it would barely idle. (collapsed lifters).
By pumping the throttle all your doing is giving it more air. the injectors are what gives it fuel. make sure when you put the fuel rail back on that all the O rings are in place, and or arn't cut. also that the rail is properly seated down all the way. also check and make sure that the plugs that go on the injectors are all plugged in correctly. to check fuel pressure at the rail, cycle the key on/off then go to the Schrader vavle and press it. fuel should "spray" out. if it only dribbles out then your not getting proper pressure. could be your fuel pump relay or even a a simple thing as a plugged fuel filter.
That will give you a few thing to check. if all that is ok then give me a holler back.
Keep Em' Twistin' Bob B.
