CB Radios
#78
I picked up the 29LX LE about a year ago. I figured it would be a good remake of the old classic I used to own as a kid. Running a 4' K40 tune-able tip, and mini 8 coax. Power runs direct to the accessory battery(driver side, cleanest battery with minimal load on it) with a fused switch in the cab to completely kill power to the radio when I turn the truck off. I do have to say it's a nice radio, but getting the SWR just right was a pain! I even tuned the best I could, I still couldn't TX very clearly. I haven't used a CB since I was a kid, and it seemed a lot simpler back then. I guess I'm out of practice! Did anyone peak and tune out of the box? Or is it good to go as it is? Maybe that was my problem.

I just got my new wilson antenna put on. It makes a difference for sure. But I need to make a corona ball to put on the tip. And I need to adjust the length a bit. SWR is good, below 1.5 across the board under modulation. But I feel it can be better. I'm thinking about possibly getting a power mic for even more modulation power.

I was in the exact same boat a couple years ago. A truck had a MHO mount on it like that, and I wanted to mount a cb antenna. Long story short, I removed the MHO, plugged the hole, and got a proper CB mount. The MHO isn't really strong enough to hold a 3-4ft antenna without some kind of back bracing. They're Made for short antennas, under 20".

I'm not looking to blow up a drive through, or a passing cars' radio, but I would like to reach out farther. So probably better modulation and a couple more watts.
So far I've found better mosfets, final upgrade, shottky diodes and an LesComm exp board to stabilize the frequency shifts in the bands. I'm not a fan of echo boards, clean and crisp. If I pair that with a 75/150, I'm looking at a pretty decked out radio.
