Can someone please provide some advice how to remove the trim around my rear window.Do you just pop it off somehow?

 

If I remember right, there are bolts holding it in from the inside. Hopefully someone will be along shortly to give you better details.

 

Yeah you have to take the interior apart(headliner, trim pieces, etc.) then there are studs you undo, and it should come off. Im resealing my back window this weekend(4day weekend!) and trading out my trim piece for one that isnt faded.

 

Green is glass bolts, yellow is trim bolts. You have to remove the glass to remove the trim.

 

Thanks for the photo, I'd like to put a sliding rear window in & just saw an ad for 1, but never considered how they were installed. Wouldn't happen to know if the 1 piece rear window installs w/the same 12 screws?

Does the glass come out from the inside? Can I presume you can replace the glass & seal from inside w/o even disturbing the trim?

 

Same bolts for both type glasses. The glass & trim are removed from outside once the nuts are removed. Too bad you're not closer, I'd swap you my slider for your 1 piece glass!

 

I took the back window and trim out of my parts truck without taking out the trim, i just pulled it back and unbolted it. But i highly recommend taking out the trim, after i got the window out the trim and headliner looked like crap. It shouldnt take too long to take the trim out(1 hour?). I got to take all my trim out this weekend so i can reseal my window. Also when you get your new window get the window sealant. I just got 15 feet(enough to do the back window) of butyl tape from napa for like $15.

 

I'd get the parts listed at the bottom of this TSB if I were going to the trouble of removing/replacing my back glass.......

ncranchero..thanks for the pics and the link...my '97 f-150 window is leaking also...what a pain getting the vinyl pieces off in order to get at the nuts! I used a long screw driver and bent a fish-hook in it to release the metal tabs, now to repair the cracked plastic frame(junk!)

 

after removing the interior trim, can you take the outer trim off without removing the window? what comes off first, trim or window?

i saw the picture and it says the trim comes off last, but i cant find anyone who has removed the window and trim and can confirm that you can not get the trim off first..

 

yes you can steve. there is no lip on the glass or the slider that would not allow you to remove the trim and not the window. peolpe 9 out of 10 times are removing the window to replace or reseal so the trim gets no attention (he he) but like our pal bobby i bet alot of us are going to be pulling the plastic trim and painting them. there is noting worse that a nice looking truck with that stupid faded grey plastisc trim around the window. what do you guys think? gloss back to match the window or body color match?? anyone ever do this yet? pics please

 

does anyone know if there is a good way to refinish or buff the faded window trim? Mine's faded too but I'd rather not go through the trouble of getting it out and painting it or replacing it.

 

i used some turtle wax ice (paste) on mine bit it wasnt too bad to start with. ild try some wd40 on a rag. i dont think anything will be a perminent fix.
