Mine has a plate on the glovebox door stating gvw 9500 lbs. I know this sounds extreme. Wagner's book fts05 says they were built on the f4 chasis to accomodate the 9' box, thus competing more effectively with chevy and dodge which already had a 9' box. this makes a really hd pickup indeed. And, yes, I believe it is a 5:14 axle ratio. Top speed is 50, and that's pushing it. Do i post the pictures on the gallery. Not sure i know how.

9500 lbs?

My f350 has a plate on the inside of the glovebox door that says gvw 9500. I know this sounds extreme. Wagner's book, fts05 states they were built on the f4 chassis to accomodate the 9' box. I will post some photos in the gallery when I figure out how. I'll get some new ones tomorrow.

Here's the F600 I just bought. Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Paid $600, drove it home. There's only a small amount of rust that I plan on fixing - shouldn't be too hard.

For some reason, I thought I already posted about your new truck. Hmm, well, good score. $600 and you drove it home, can't complain on that at all. Looks like a real solid start for a fun project. What are your plans? Going stock, or modified? I don't have any literature on anything newer than 55, but I can offer some assistance (just don't ask for part numbers). Probably the stock 292, 4 speed manual, etc. Great project. Repair parts are available. Check out LMC, Concoursparts, and maybe the used sector through Bobs in California. Hey Gb, get them photos in your gallery, we want to see em. On another note, I am kicking around a '54 F-600. Complete, rough interior, good exterior, cheap. May or may not run, but hey, it has a lot of good parts on it, and if I get it, I'll use it to restore my dads '55 F-350 express. I figure I'll swap parts between the two, and make the 54 a running work rig, and put the straightest body parts onto dads truck.

1951 F5 Owner, guess I'd qualify.

JB, Wow I'd say a great score!

I'm liking the idea of fine tuning info here, Seems to make sense sometimes.
Still learning my way around, photos to come soon.

Welcome, and you fit right in here. 51 F-5 is most definately a medium duty Ford truck. Create a gallery. Use the gallery drop down menu at the top of the page, or the options in you user control panel. WE WANT PHOTOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

im lookin for a 57-60 f700+ to make into a pickup. its to go along with my '78 medium duty/bronco posted in the gallery. i think i may just get the front clip and bolt it to a smaller chassis truck, (with lots of other mods of course) for gas mileage. any ideas?

ya know wmjoe i looked for this thread and couldn't find it after i traded twise for my other truck now . geuss i just had to wait . well anyway as i'm sure ya all know besides the 53 1/2 ton i know have another yard ornament , a 49 f-4 . it has those clunky turn signals too that everyone seems to be wondering about . it's a 8rt flathead v-8 with the unsynchronized 4 speed .supposed to be yellow but is in a shade of rust for now . it's a dump bed . not much else to say at present as its a lil to big to get in the garage to work on it without moving a great many things around {aka as too much stuff !} and putting the 53 and the wifes car outside . i cant add attachments for some odd reason so if ya wanna look at pics there in my gallery . later !

The major problem with using the fenders from a big truck is the wheel opening will be way too big unless you use wheels that have the same outer diameter as the big truck.
