Here is the wrecker bed in it's current state. I have a second one for a parts doner and I am still missing a few nice to have items.

I've had a stuck throttle once, and know of one local hotrodder who went to the cruise in the sky due to a WOT tragedy. I recognize these ain't no hotrods, but another spring is some cheap insurance...

Agreed! I was at a car show once apon a time, an older gentleman was backing his Chrysler into a row of show cars when his throttle went wide open and his car slammed into another car, wheels continuing to spin out of control, grass and dirt flying everywhere. He was in a panic, someone else had to reach into the car and turn the ignition off before the engine, which was holding about 7,000 rpms, blew. It was an ugly sight. There were some less than happy participants of the show. Can't really see it in my photo, but I do have two springs. One to the rear and one to the front side of the carb area.

i do plan to crew cab stretch mine, but my build will otherwise be much more "how would Henry do it". I have to fetch a donor frame as this one came with the original long gone and a late 90s bowtie 1 ton in its' place. That won't do. I hope to maximize my gvwr while remaining within the confines of the original sheetmetal dimensions (front axle width largely governing this selection process). I think I want Budd style wheels for minimized unsprung weight, and am shooting for a sub 26k gvwr.
here is my actual truck as it was drug into the shop:

Crew cab, Yeah, that's also what I had started before I got sidetracked with this 56. I have a 53 F750 cab cut in half, doors 80% made and the roof from a panel truck and some doner door jams all just waiting for some loving. Also have an 87 F700 for the chassis which is perched atop Rockwell axles - Yes it is a 4X4 and of coarse it will be diesel. I can dream too. Keep us up to date on your progress!

I guarantee to update. I think I might have already started a build thread here. Trouble is, I'm rehabbing an old house first.
I don't know how many times the wife has said something about how we can't live in the truck. I always reply with, "please don't tell me I can't do something. You don't know how that motivates me!"

Anybody here good with electrical issues? I am plagued with a few gremlins on my truck. My charging system is not functioning properly. I installed all new gauges in the truck to include a volt meter. I also installed a duraspark2 ignition system. The entire truck has been wired from scratch, which has been a challenge due to conflicting information on how to wire some parts such as the duraspark module out here on the web. After trying different things, I am now to the point where everything seems to be working except the charging system. The truck does not have an indicator light for charging, so the "I" terminal on my voltage regulator is currently not connected to anything. (I mistakenly had it wired to the "I" terminal on my starter solenoid for a while.) After starting the truck, if I momentarily put 12V to the "I" terminal on the voltage regulator, the charging system works flawless until the truck is turned off and re started. Each time it is started, 12v must be applied to the "I" term of the voltage regulator momentarily for the charging system to function. If the "I" term remains connected to the ignition system, the truck will not shut off because this wire then feeds the coil with voltage. I'm confused. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Sorry I can't help out much with the wiring. Your engine bay is spectacular.

I see your 2nd return spring. Neat set up. Will explor.

Ok,
Its been a while since this got up near the top. I read the whole thread. I posted in another thread that I am on the fence about these Big Jobs specifically a 1956 ex fire truck. F800 has shortened frame rails (Shorter wheel base than when a fire truck)
Has around 20K miles has been stored for a while. Fire truck bed is long gone. I have not gone to look at it yet. So I really don't know the current condition.
I read some info here that the 56 is desirable. I did get some very good information on things to look for Like desirable wheel options.
I have too many toys now, but I have a problem! There I said it, and feel a little better too!
Just wanted to get any other opinions, ideas or suggestions, even price estimates or walk away issues.
Regards,
Chris

That is sweet! And four wheel drive to boot. Is it a Coleman setup? Now I'm hungry for more pics - engine compartment, interior, and dash.

Nice 54 Big Job! Bob, I zoomed in on the picture and I believe it is a MH All Wheel Drive.

Welcome to FTE, the best Ford Truck Forum on the World Wide Web! There are a lot of big truck guys here and MH guys here that can answer any questions you may have.

Thanks for the pictures. When you can show us more pics of the engine, interior and the MH parts and tell us about its history.

dc5types,
Welcome and Wow! Nice Christmas present! Where is the bow? What are your plans? It looks like its rolling. How does it run? I didn't even know that they made a all wheel drive version of these big boys! Cab looks pretty good too.
Regards,
Chris
