2004 F150 Window Motor stopped working

Hello I have a 2004 F150 and today my window would not go up or down. I suspect the window motor went out. My brother has the same truck and he had to have his window motor replaced less than six months ago. Does anyone know if Ford has a recall on Window motors failing. Has anyone else had this same problem. Thanks, Brian

As far as I know there is no recall on window motors. Other folks have had that problem including myself. Looks like you are gonna have to bite the bullet and get it fixed. Some people on this site are real handy and have fixed the problem themselves but I am not one of those. You can save money by doing it yourself but taking off the door panel without breaking anything and then figuring out exactly why the window wont work is a real challenge.

Odds are your window regulator went out ... possibly because the plastic clips holding the cable broke. This is a VERY common issue. Beware, it can happen to any and all of your windows at just about any time. Fun, huh!? If a window sounds like it's scraping a bit as it goes up/down ... get ready. That's just one warning sign.

"Recalls" are typically safety issues that are covered by Ford (more or less) for the life of the vehicle. Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) are technical issues that they'll cover while you're under warranty. Of course, if you're under warranty, then it'll be covered regardless. If you're out of warranty, then you're out of luck.

You can either pay the dealership to fix it (cost me $321!) or buy prop up your window for a week while you wait for parts to be delivered from an online source such as the one I've listed below. The job should take you 1-2 hours.

http://www.fordparts.com
--> OEM Parts catalog
--> In the REPLACEMENT PARTS block, fill out year, make, model.
--> From the list, select: body hardware, door, front door, window reg.

Another potential parts source. Regulators may be under the Collision section.

I also a window assembly diagram (Adobe .pdf) in my gallery.

Cool Regulator

I have had 3 go out in about 9 months. Called Ford about it and they told me to talk to the Dealership. So, I am going to see if there is some type of regional supervisor I can talk to about it. Spent about $900 so far. Click the image to open in full size.

Does anyone know of a way to modify this plastic piece, either reinforcing it or making a metal piece that will replace this plastic crap?

Has anyone bought the aftermarket Cardone reman motor? It appears to be only for the crew cab and it was my understanding that every cab had a different PN.
