Seems to me the torque king stuff is about the best, but failures look like primarily 4wd nv4500, is yours 2wd or 4wd? If 5th has already failed (fallen off) that limits your options, as I understand it, Replacing the shaft is mandatory. Maybe 5th (or the nut) fell off and made contact with the reverse idler? Your project looks great, Cant wait till I get this damn body work done and can start on the fun stuff.

I'm guessing it was due to the AC pump location or the exhaust.
On my truck (74 crew) the cummins motor is centered and I had to cut a BUNCH of the stock cross memeber out. I realized when lining up the cummins that in stock form the motor/tranny were offset in the Fords. Unfortunately - it's offset the wrong way for the cummins. It was throwing me off when I was aligning the cummins as I had a lot of room on one side, and not so much on the other, but the motor sure did look centered in there. After taking the cummins back out I took a long look at the front of the firewall, etc. and noticed howw off center the tranny tunnel, etc. was.
Not sure if you can tell from this pic - but it's the best I have

Did you have to do any work on the firewall, or did the Cummins fit well far enough forward of it to be able to leave the firewall alone?
I'm going to be putting one in my '68 which is two-wheel drive and of course has a completely different front crossmember from the 4X4. Info on fitment in bumpside 4X2 trucks seems to be pretty sketchy...
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
Interesting, I wouldn't think a mfg would offset a motor.
I have done a bunch of transplants, I always ID CL's before disassembly, I have never seen an offset motor. Not that there couldn't be! And I have never offset a motor except for circle track cars and I always offset them as much as the rules allow (Or what I think I can get away with )
I will ID the CL's on my truck before pulling the motor so maybe I'll get to see my first factory offset.
Thanks for the info, Appreciate it!
Darn, I wish I was still in Cali. That 74 looks solid! I miss the rust less nature of things out there.
The tranny tunnel is what really blew my mind, but looking at it from the inside and how/where the pedals are it makes sense.

For giggles, I just stuck my laser system on my 86 (see tagline FMI) and the crank and tailshaft are as dead center as one can measure with a tape. On the tailshaft I had to measure from the housing, but it should be pretty close. Close enough.
Thanks for pointing out the possibility of a factory offset.

Me - no. Not sure if HRDROKN did or not, but I don't think so.

Are you doing the swap in your 86? If so - that's a different beast...
