Very strange feeling when brakes applied

Has anybody put on their brakes while turning at a slow speed and felt like one side was kinda on a gravel type surface. This happened to me today while I was parking my wife's 02 Escape 3.0 XLT. It did not happen again when I tried the same parking move. It feels as if the front drivers wheel is braking on a bunch of loose sand gravel type of surface for about two to three feet before final stop. It has done this before but it was raining and I just thought it was my driveway which has a small loose rock type of covering. I have found many answers to other problems on this site but cant find anything on this one. Thanks in advance.

The calipers on the drivers side wheel may not applying the disk brakes evenly on the rotor.

Thanks for the advice. Just pulled off the caliper and was giving a good look over around the area and noticed the abs ring on the axle has a crack in it and will move when I push on it. What would be the best way to fix the ring and would this cause the funny feeling?

Brakes

I just had my vehicle inspected today and I have the same problem. They said they couldn't replace just the ring. Apparently you have to replace the entire axle to fix the problem. Roughly $160.00 an axle plus labor. OUCH My ABS light goes on and off while driving. When the light is on the ABS isn't working. If the light turns off when I'm braking or making a right turn it causes the ABS to engage and causes the wierd brake feeling.

Have you tried "JB Weld", have fixed a couple and the cost is less than $5.00, if it doesnt work, what are you really out??

No, I never even thought of trying something like that. Good point, what do I have to lose.
