will 16 inch rim fit on new superduty

A buddy of mine has ordered a new F250 that comes with the 18 inch rims. He wants to put studded snow tires on for plowing but find any that are as good as the 17 or 16 inch tires. He does have a set of 16 inch rims and tires from his 03 superduty but the dealer is not sure if they will clear the new calipers, they say the calipers were redesigned and may not clear the 16 inch. Does anyone know for sure if 16 rims will fit the new superduty? Thanks for any help.

17" is the smallest size that will clear the calipers. My truck came with 17's and they were a very close fit.

what if you would space the wheel out slightly 1/4 inch or so?

So a lesson would be, if you have an older ford and want wheels, buy 17+ wheels so you can put em on your new ford later :P

Im a ford guy ...thru and thru but certain things ford does just ticks me off - like being the only ones having a metric bolt pattern and then changing offsets and now making calipers bigger so 16s dont fit - what are they thinking?........always changing is not good - esp trucks - people want choices and ability to use something perhaps they had or could buy cheap....not always buy new

they did the same thing with the 460 engine....its a pita to work on something when youre always needing a build date and parts only fit a small range of years - makes it expensive and stuff is limited -

love their trucks but they need to get it together and stop constantly changing

Bigger calipers usually mean better stopping.

yeah...bigger brakes are something that should evolve with the truck...right!

the so called "super duty" wasnt fords first rodeo - think they should have put decent brakes on in the first place?.....my 2000 f-250 was a step backwards from my older truck -in my opinion - in the braking dept ....a big step forward in general though..... I mostly like it.

those unitized front axle bearing assemblies were another real step forward in the heavy duty dept too - I feel like putting an old dana 60 in mine with real bearings - my fisher 9 ft plow is beating the hell out of the unitized ones ....and can they get any more expensive to replace????

I'm just glad the superduties don't use the 7 lug ford pattern that was used in the late 90's !!!

Dyna trac makes a nice conversion for the front axle to get rid of the nice designed front bearings.

but price the dynatrac conversion?? I can see fords reasoning on a sealed wheel bearing, the motor and pickup will last 4-500k and people just drive things now, and don't maintain things anymore. It still sucks for us that know how to pack a wheel bearing.
