A Good (LONG) Day...

Thanks to all the help here, I pulled my flattie motor today. Simple Simon! Not as young as I used to be, and my help didn't show up. But it came right out.

Still haven't found any "stoppers" to putting it back in someday. I'm thinking it's going to need some work - the bores seem to have more lip than they should have - haven't gotten gauges yet.

I put a quick flash together - you can see my progress, at:

My Truck

Thanks again, to all, for your advice, help, and suggestions.

Now, if I can just get my horn button off!!!

looks like i went well, your truck is in really good shape. that tranny looks very much like the one in my '52 F-3, it is a 4-speed? whats is it called?

also, i'm planning on leaving work early today, and get a head start on pulling my 51's engine today (sold it). hope to have all the sheet metal removed by tonight. i'm taking front front clip off piece by piece instead of the whole assembly.

The advice on the horn button stands - push down, turn ccw about 1/8 of a turn. Probably have years of crud and fine particles, oils from hands, etc making it stick. Might try prying it up with a thin blade after you push it down and turn - you've got 3 hands don't you?

Go easy on the prying though, make sure its has actually turned a bit or its very easy to break the little tabs off of it (and then you are stuck gluing a magnet to the back of it and making a nifty refrigerator magnet).....Id rather not go into the specifics of how I know this

Nice work. Great looking garage. You got some tools, man!

I liked the website a lot. That truck is pretty clean.

Thanks, I really do have a lot of tools. I'm rather a tool freak, would rather buy it than borrow it. Plus I got a lot when I bought my wife's uncle's when he sold out (at 89). Wish I could have fit his lift in the shop, next shop will have 14 foot ceilings, instead of 10. He had a garage for 50 years. Not shown are a 1940's metal lathe, '40'sdrill press (you can mill on it!), 8 inch jointer, among other things. They don't make them like that anymore! Kinds like our trucks. It's very rare, that I have to buy anything, but I love it when I do! I am getting ready to buy a mig welder, one of the few things I don't have, plus an extension for the sandblast booth. You can see a corner of it in one of the pics. It will take it from 42 X 28 X 28 to 60 X 28 X 28. So I will be able to do up to bumpers, and maybe even fenders.

Of course, that's just the shop - I have another complete set up with the common necessary tools (triple box full) complete with compressor and air tools, over in "MOM'S" garage, for when I'm over there. The shop is across the street from the house, and I'm lazy.

Thanks on the website, too. You are right, it's in excellent shape to start with. I guess you can call it a "survivor". I'm enjoying the heck out of working on it - wish I had some help at times, but keeps me out of the bars!

Bobby - I'll try the pry...it moves side to side rather smoothly and easily, almost 1/4", so I'm sure I'm probably clearing the tabs. I was just afraid to pry. I'll get someone to help with the third hand and use a plastic trim tool. I know all about those tabs deallies. Have made MANY a fridge magnet, over the years.

Reminds me of 25 years ago. I was contractor, and one of the helpers knocked over a lady's bud vase. Little thing. Little crack at the top. Told her we'd replace it. She told us where....$700.00!!! So we took a diamond cutter to the bud vase, cut it off, and had a $700 shot glass!

Thanks for the info...wish me luck!

That's the same reason my '48 has a new reproduction button........ my philosophy? "You gotta break a few eggs if you're gonna bake a cake!"

Terry - I've been watching a bunch of them! YouTube has quite a few, from stock "barn finds" to full-race. I am getting anxious.

Still on for Wednesday...hope to leave here around 4:00 AM, getting there around 10:00. Still debating whether to bring a trailer, or the Jeep Liberty, with lot's of boxes, tubs, and buckets...

I remembered the sound from old movies, once I heard it. Not too many flatheads out where I live...
