Transmission Trouble

I installed a 351W in my 74 bronco with a C-4 tranny. When I put it in gear, foward or backward, it hesitates to go into gear. Once in gear it is fine going down the road. It goes in reverse and goes out, in and out, same way in drive, in and out, in and out till I gas it up. Any ideas????

I'm by no means a tranny expert but I think I would make sure my vacum modulator was good and did not have any vacum leaks.

Hope it is simple
Kris

Going by your 2 threads I'd guess your having a problem with either the kick-down rod or the vacuum modulator. Did the 351w replace a 302? If you did the taller 351 might be the issue with the kick-down rod. You could take it off and try running it that way for a test. If it runs though the gears normally then you need to adjust(bend) the rod to work. You could also switch to a cable operated kick-down.
If it still isn't shifting properly without the kick-down report back.

where is the vacuum modulator located? I do not have a kick down rod on it. Where could I get a cable kick down?

Go under the tranny and look at the rear passenger side of the tranny. It's very close to the cross member.
I'd do a vacuum test next.
Loakr makes-sells the kickdown cables.

You can buy a cable kickdown from summit racing, Lokar makes them. It's a cut to length setup, They run about 50 bucks or so

Problem solved! Either the new trans mod or the fresh type-f fluid solved the problem!!!
