I have an 06 model and just got back from the dealer. I have a standard 60mo/60,000 mile Power Train Warranty with roadside. I have got 13,000 miles on the rig now, not a daily driver. Not sure I'm ready to take the plunge yet on the extra warranty. The dealer actually liked the Ford BaseCare package which included 84 major components at a price of $2300, which I would believe is negotiable. I will never break the mile requiments so it comes down to the term length. An extra 2 years of warranty for roughly $1750(21 covered components) or haggle them down on the BaseCare 84 @ $2300. I've always thought extended warranties were a money maker for the companies other wise they would not offer them. My.02

Yep. Ford's ESP underwritters are betting that you won't use it, and you are betting that you will, and IF you use it, the cost of the policy is a factor for still making a profit spread out to X amount of policyholders. The higher the cost, (in this case nearly $2K), the higher the probability the policy would have a claim against it.
So, for 2 thousand bucks, you can bet that SOMETHING is going to fail. And I agree, the powertrain with all it's components just may fail, but not to the tune above the initial premium. Or possibly a "non" covered part will fail.
Also the "shop" always gives a cost break less than what you and I have to pay. So when we get a bill from the service dept, it will be higher for the same repair, as well as the failed replaced component. So not only are they getting a break on labor rate, but on the parts as well.

Does anybody have any solid info on whether or not it's possible to get the coverage on an '04 with 120k? An earlier post said that with a call to Ford it might be possible to get the plan for a truck over 100k but less than 5 years old. How about you Ford service guys out there, do you know if your dealerships are open to this? I'd buy it from any dealer that could write it for me. My trucks' OASIS has only an oil cooler replaced at 112k but I'd like to keep this thing for the long run and I'd sleep a lot better at night.
Exactly, they will only replace the turbo once, after it has been changed at anytime, the 7/200k extended warranty will not cover its replacement. So if the factory installed turbo was replaced at 50k miles the 7/200k warranty will not cover another turbo replacement, it will only cover the replacement of the factory installed turbo.
Well, that leaves me out. My turbo has already been replaced once.
I posted earlier that my research indicates they would cover the turbo more than once if it was the oem or the Ford recommended turbo as opposed to aftermarket types. I checked with Ford warranty and my dealer before I bought my warranty.
Yes, Great post on the coverage sheet Blackhat, just legible enough to read it too.
If a guy can get the 21 item covered for 16 clams at the same time leaving his truck alone for the duration, then it sounds like a great idea. I especially like the "no deductable" part.
for the cost, You're betting something is going to fail, and they are betting it won't be more than their investment, as they usually have to pay a commission.
They also get your $$'s right now - time value of money means a lot to a company.

I am seriously thinking about this. I got a quote for $1420, going to try to get em a little lower. No big issues with my truck but it's bone stock. They make you sign a waiver saying you will use a certain oil and change all filters regularly. Unfortunately I don't have a scanner, maybe I'll snap a pic and post it. I'm gonna talk to the tech at the dealership that quoted though first about what mods I would be allowed.
So far my best price was "Bob Valenti's" in Mystic CT. His first offer was 1920 but when I told him I had an offer for 1470 he reluctantly dropped to 1420. It's the factorty Ford ESP 13 component coverage. I am not eligible for the other due to miles. As for the stipulations, CJ-4 oil must be used, all current emission flashes and fuel filters every 15,000. Basic maintenance really. Also, this price must be paid in full, no financing because they aren't making anything on it really, so they say.
I went to the dealership I bought the truck from yesterday to buy coolant for drain and flush and talked to the lead service advisor about aftermarket equipment and he told me this:
"If there is warranty work done we submit it to Ford, it's Ford's discretion on whether or not to approve the warranty work. If there's a questionable circumstances, i.e. catastrophic failure, head gasket, Ford MAY send an adjuster to inspect the vehicle for modifications that could cause this failure. We as a service provider have no intention of drawing attention to questionable accessories especially since you bought the truck and the ESP from us as a dealer. It is in our best interest to maintain you as a repeat customer."
So I asked about a coolant filter, performance exhaust, and digital gauge read out. He said none of these things will be "substantial performance enhancers" and that they should not interfere with ESP or raise any red flags, also if warranty work was to occur it wouldn't be good company policy to "rat out" a returning customer. Of course, this is all verbal and not in writing anywhere. But them knowing I bought the truck from them and in the regards of keeping me as a return customer I believe them, to a point and the following is why.
A very good friend of mine bought a truck off of them and it was in a word, NIGHTMARE! He owned it for two years, 6 months of it was in the shop and he swore he'd never buy another Ford again. The sales manager called him at home and bought the truck back off him as a trade in on a brand new one for about $800 less than he paid for the truck new. He loves it, zero problems and when it's time he'll most likely buy another he said, from them of course.
So that's my take on the ESP. I personally think I'm gonna go with it. It's only 1500 with tax and give me almost 2.5 years more warranty.
Ok now a new twist on the situation. What isnt covered by the warranty. Its nice to have what is covered. But what isnt. Somewhere on the actual warranty contract they have to stipulate what isnt covered. When Ford tries to sell you an extended warranty they tell you whats covered in big print but in the small print is where what isnt covered is included. If somebody could provide a list here I might be interested. If not I dont want it. Period. Who in the heck is going to put on 100,000 miles on a truck in 2 years. Very few people I would guess. Id say if you do that. Buy it. If not dont. 2 years is not a very long time really if you think about it. In 2 years Ford will have your money an not have to worry about you anymore. An your money will be gone. I think I will just take my chances. Odds are if something happens it will happen in 5 years or 100,000 miles is my take on it. Probabably the best money maker a dealer has as well as Ford. Just think off it this way they get your 1900 or so dollars an. Its quick an easy an if you neve use it Ford wins every time. By gues is when the smoke clears after two years you will have not usee the warranty an Ford will have made 100% profit off of you.
That's the chance you take. I just had a problem with my EGR cooler hose and from what I hear the cooler will be next if fate has it's way. What's a cooler change out cost $1000? So I got my warranty for $400? I think I'll take my chances. It's a gamble I know but so is going with out it. Pick your poison and hope it don't kill you.
