Hauling fuel for a truck stop I see tons, probably 50+ of those RVtrailer transporters, car transporters w/2-3cars behind a pickup a day.By far the Ford PSD is the king, second is the duramax, third and actually rare is the cummins. The cummins engine is a very good engine but the dudge trucks don't hold up mechanicly or in resale.

one of the guys in the central texas turbo diesel chapter (aka... cummins diesel club) went to the diesel nationals this weekend to pull and today when he pulled, he broke his rear axle. so in other words, while the engine may stay together, the cab, suspension, and every thing else will fall down around it.

You can have a Ford body, Cummins engine, and an Allison transmission. Check out this used one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Custo...QQcmdZViewItem

Yes the Cummins is the better engine, but the 7.3 is very reliable and can have a lifespan as long as a cummins I have had 7.3's in the mid 300's and have had two of my guys with over 500k miles with no problems at all. Yes a CTD is cheaper to build up than a PSD, but for towing you don't need any more than a tuner and exhaust can provide. The Ford is the all around better truck and will last as long as the engine will not like the Dodge which will fall apart around that great engine. Think of it this way, a Dodge truck is a wounderful shipping crate for a Cummins engine!

Yes, that's exactly within my budget
