I used to be avid in hot rodding 5.0's and read all the magazines and such, tried to apply what I could afford to my then new '90 5-spd LX Stang. Those days are long gone as a family has changed my priorities. (Not quite actually, as I still have a '79 Stang w/ full roll cage and and a 357 Cleavor motor that loves 7,000 blasts) I digress, lemme get to the point.
A buddy and I are building a Factory 5 Corbra replica. (no the wife hasn't been super excited about it) It is about ready to have a motor/drivetrain dropped in.
Anyway, we have decided to stay with the donor car's 5.0 and keep it EFI. We would like to get around 350HP out if it, and in my breif investigation, it looks like that is reasonably possible. Basically, Ford Motorsports offers a complete motor putting out 340HP,I think. It looks like all the numbers are coming from cam, heads, intake, 1.7:1 rockers, 70MM TB and huge MAF. Will a stock computer from a '93 model handle the engine mgt. chores alone? I don't want to get too crazy as this thing needs to run well, and reliably. Could someone more familiar in this type of build make some suggestions as to what brand heads and such we should be looking for? There are a ton of new(?) players in the aftermarket world that simply didn't exist back in the day...I'm out to lunch on them, and need to catch up.
Thanks!
Not sure on the engine managment but I'd think it would be ok with the mass air. As for heads, lots to choose from. AFR and Trick flow are very well known in the 5.0 world. Your numbers will be easy to attain. I think it was in one of my car crafts, they pulled a 5.0 out of 90s stang in the salvage yard, pulled it apart, cleaned, inspected, re-bearing, re-ring and thats about it. bolted on some AFR heads with a 4 barrel and pulled 400HP, with the stock cam! I was just at AFRs web site, they have some good dyno tests to check out. I think I'm going to buy a pair myself.

Out of the box, it's hard to beat a set of AFR and Trick Flow heads. However, to fully capture the potential, the stock ECU will need some tuning. You'll also need to make sure your fuel system is up to par as well. I think you can achieve the power levels you're looking for with the stock injectors, aftermarket tuning and adjustable FPR. However, I'd suggest putting a fuel pressure gauge on it to make sure the pump can support it as well.

From the little I have read recently, it seems that 25lb/hr injectors along with bigger fuel pump, TB and MAF. I also understood that a better intake was required. Can anyone comment on the specifics?
I have also looked at both the AFR's and TF heads. A relative bagain when I think back to the days when porting E7 heads and Extrude Honing the stock intake was trick!
