If you go to page marked 27 or (Adobe page 29 of 56) you will see a drawing of the exhaust system which shows what can be modified. Basically you can modify between the DPF and the cooling diffuser twin tips; with warning to not increase the back pressure.
I CAN'T SEEM TO GET THAT LINK TO WORK BUT, I'M INTERESTED TO SEE WHAT IT IS AND WHERE IT CAME FROM, I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO PUT A 4 0R 5 '' ON MINE. CAN YOU POST IT AGAIN?

I think your post came about before I finally had it edited to work. Some problem because it was https vs http. Link in my post quoted in your reply does not work but my original edited post should have good link now.

Otherwise go to www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas/
and the "whats new for MY2008" link is towards lower left.

It's kinda a 'wishy-washy' deal all the manufactures have in regards to exhaust system on dz with the new emmisions crap. Exhausts wear-out - so if their going to void warranty if we change them maybe 'they' should cover the repalcement of them as well.

Just for clairifcation I am only talking DPF-back not turbo-back

I think this will clear things up on what can and cannot be modified. Look at page 27 of this PDF from ford. It outlines what can be modified on the exhaust.

What is the purpose of the slots in the exhaust tips. Are these essential for the exhaust to work properly?

yes, they are for cooling porposes.
i read an article about sucessfully removing them with no issues but the size pipe was upgraded.

That was great, now I know that I cannot modify my exhaust and that it is a 4" exhaust all the way to the end, unlike my friend's dodge which was 4" up until the end and then for some reason stepped down to a 3" exhaust.

Those slots are for mixing cool air into the flow before the air actually reaches the tip. It also helps in the Venturi effect (Bernoulli's principle)

Also please note by my Avatar how GM really couldn't have screwed this up anymore. The pic was taken prior to the MBRP cool duel installation. The GM factory exhaust and tip look like a musket. What did the think - we was hunting 'wabbits' ?

I removed DPf and drove to shop open exhaust and still sounded like an escort , nothing will make it louder than that , and I could still hear the tires sing at 75mph it was so quite! But had to replace the DPF for now until I can get someone to turn off the regen cycle, it just blew out alot of white thick smoke.
