HVAC Noises

Anyone here notice their hvac makes strange sounds? Mine makes a purring noise at certain fan speeds and this morning was one of the first cool mornings I have driven in and there was a very noticeable howl coming from the vents with the heat on. I have to say it upsets me more and more the fact that this truck has such a hefty price tag but low quality. I hope the new Toyota Sequoia is nice and roomy..

Yes. A couple of things I have noticed.

1) If your vents are not almost all the way open and pointed mostly straight, they will whistle or make funny noises.

2) Driving on the freeway with the a/c on and NOT in recirculate mode, you can hear the wind/air rushing into the fresh air intake and that comes through the vents. Almost as if the speed of the fan changes a bit with the wind. Switch it to recirculate and it goes away. I think the way the fresh air intake and hood were designed makes too much direct air flow into this intake.

Yes mine makes strange noises at times too. Just like today with the AC on the fan at a auto low speed was making a growling sound. I thought it was from the radio. I turned off the radio, yep it was coming from the vents in the dash. turning the system off and then back on stopped the odd sound. A minor problem, but strange just the same. At least my AC has not quit working (yet) as it has for some other people on this site.

Anyone else notice that when the climate control is NOT in recirculate mode and the fan speed is on a lower setting you can hear wind noise come into the vents? Strange. Try it on the highway. Almost like the fresh air intake is getting too much wind directed by the hood maybe.

Be glad you guys don't have the rear expansion valve noise that I have been dealing with. My dealer has replaced it twice (it has been redesigned by ford twice as well) and ended up putting the original vlave back in. He told me to bring the truck back in the spring and have him put in what he assumes will be another redesign in then.

The only noise I notice is that when the fan speed is on 1 or 2 the fan chirps or squeaks, my wife can't hear it but it drives me nuts. It's like it needs an oiling or a shot of WD40. I might take it to the dealer and see what they say, I hate going to the dealer.
