Question 94 5.0 F-150 shifting hard into 2nd gear

i just got this truck. it is a 1994 5.0 with auto/od. whenever it shifts into 2nd gear it shifts really hard, however none of the other gears have this problem. there does not seem to be any slippage or other problems. the motor purrs like a kitten and the truck is well maintained. any suggestions?

I've heard two things that causes this issues... Someone please correct me if im wrong on this.

1) has something to do with a spring in the valvue body of the tranny

2) I've also read that this issue was correct by replacing the mtoro and tranny mounts

same problem happened with my truck quite a few years back, fairly common problem with e earlier E4OD (mine was a 1994) ended up geting a rebuilt put in for about 1200? not soo sure on that number but it runs real strong now! only about 30k on the tranny

I have the same truck and HAD the same problem, that is until someone on here 5 years ago when I bought mine told me what was wrong and how to fix it:
First off its not inside the valve body, so you don't have to remove THAT to fix it.
Second: Its the 1-2 servo piston and the spring-the spring is the culprit, you must remove the pan-(now is a good time to change the filter too, and be sure and drain your converter too.
The piston and its (now broken spring) are in the front left corner of the trans, you must push up on the piston-I used a bottle jack-(AND WEAR SAFETY GLASSES, PLEASE!!!)and remove the clip that holds it in and slowly let the jack down and remove the piston and the broken spring(it will be in the top half of the piston-it will now look like broken links of an ID bracelet!
Ford has an upgraded piston and spring for this, I have the part numbers but not with me right now, do yourself a favor and use MERCON V fluid when refilling-its a little expensive but worth it in the long run-its full synthetic.

yeah im taking it to the transmission shop on friday, my mechanic said hes a good guy so we'll see... he (trans. guy) that it was probably a spring, some kind of spring, maybe it was called accuator or something, i dont know, transmission are a mysterious black hole to me, just wanted to maybe find if someone had this problem before and fixed it.

Guys, Give me a day or 2 on the diagram and part numbers.
The trans in the '94 is a 4R70W model, should be trans code "U" as I remember (on your data sticker) not sure if the F350 has the same trans-is it a gas engine? if so and its a 351 (5.8) its most likely the same, I'll be back with you guys soon!! and BTW: Welcome to the FTE, Curb!!

I have a 02 p5 and love it. I love both my p5 and f150 for different reasons obviously.

yeah, the p5 was awesome, we had a lot of work done to it but i got tooo many speeding tickets, it had a racing header from obx and straight pipes and a lot of other goodies, we made it hang with much faster cars, but alas the motor got hydro locked in a flood so i replaced it and sold it for 9500 not bad considering it had been wrecked 2x
