Carbed 351W into a 1990 F-150 EFI

I have the oportunity to get a FREE 351W carbed engine. I would like to turn it into an EFI 351W so I can swap it into my truck with no issues. unplug the 302 and slide it out. Then slide in the 351W plug it in and go.

I have no engine experience and I will be rebuilding this engine over the winter.

Does anyone know what I will need to do this swap?

Any help or thoughts on this would be great.

Thanks

it will be a direct swap. But mark all your lines and wires on the truck, so you know were they go. and change one sensor at a time....have fun and good luck

wouldn't hurt but i think that stock intake, and fuel rails should work...no problems w/ the EEC it's a batch fire, fires one side then the other, just don't forget to use the 351 firing order.

no you have to get a 351 intake at the very least and also fuel rails I belive but you might want to check for sure. The 351 has a taller deck hight than the 302, thas why you need the 351 intake. As far as the sensors I believe they are all the same, although you will need to get a 351 chip for your computer or have a specialty one made depending on what you do for an engine build.

As stated you need the complete 5.8 intake, fuel rail, and distributor. The 5.8 should run on the 5.0 computer, but I won't guarantee how well. A 5.8 computer is the cheap solution. You will also have to modify the stock Y pipe because the 5.8 is a wider motor. It is not a hard swap, but certainly not a direct plug-n-play.

this is not a hard swap. look on ebay for a 5.8 upper/lower intake they are usually complete with fuel rail but if not get one for a 5.8 setup. get a tfi mounted 5.8 distributor and the proper front timing cover because a carbed engine wouldnt have the right cover. you will reuse your 5.0 harness, all the sensors are the same and can be used from the 302 intake or buy new. motor mounts are the same and the acessory brackets from the 302 should bolt on the 5.8. not sure what tranny you currently are running so be sure to let us know this is a very important part. then locate a 5.8/C6 ecu from the junkyard it can be from a bronco,f150-350 trucks. a good cam to install is compcam 35-255-5 dont let anyone else sell you something different. this cam works with the computer really well and is proven.

any more questions let me know, have fun.

Thanks guys,

The engine is actually out of a 79 Bronco, I will use as much as I can out of the Bronco and hen scrapyard the rest. I plan on rebuilding the 351 so I have a "fresh" motor to run with, plan on taking my time and doing it right. I will do the suggested cam and I was thinking of running headers and duals with an "H" pipe and some glass packs, probably dyna flows.

Any help or things to watch for with this engine rebuild would be great.

I appreciate all the help so far.

a 351 out of a 79 bronco would be a 351m which wont work for this swap.

the cleveland was never put into a fullsize bronco either. the cleveland was a car motor that stopped production in 72. the 79 bronco would come with either a 351m or a 400 both have a different bolt pattern and require a bigblock tranny.

the cleveland is more of a hi rpm motor and parts are hard to locate. the windsor is the motor ford carried thru 97

not worth it, the motor is very low power. plus it wont bolt up to the tranny in your f150. the last year that motor was used is 82-84 in 2wd f250's f350's.

locate an 88-97 complete 5.8 out of a bronco,f150-f350. this will make the swap plug and play for the most part.

the 351M & 400's have decent power potential, set the timing straight up and get rid of the smog junk http://home.earthlink.net/~bubbaf250/, but he's right it wont bolt up to your tranny
