Head Light Switch?

My headlight switch gave up, I ordered it and got a new one. It didn't come with the knob or the triangular post. Can I use the post/knob from the old switch? If so, how do I get the post out of the old switch? How much of the dash do I have to take apart to get to the switch? The new switch part number is SW - 2103 E7TZ-11654-B It's a 94 Aerostar with standard headlight controls.

There is a spring loaded retaining clip or a set screw that holds it in place. You should get a headlight relay kit as well, unless you want to fry your new switch. The switch can't handle the current of the headlights, and over time the switch will overheat and fail.

Where can this said relay or relays be purchased? my switch doesn't get hot, but my new headlights draw alot of power, and i'm thinking of adding fog lights, and don't want to have a nuclear melt down on my dashboard.

The really old style headlights had a spring loaded button on the bottom of the switch body that you pushed to allow the light switch knob to be pulled out. Dunno about the new ones.

Someone recently posted a link to a ready-made harness for the 9007 series headlights. If you can't find it, you can check with Stern Lighting. These harnesses can be installed without cutting or splicing the stock harnesses.

If you can't find a pre-made harness for your car, you can find the parts from Radio Shack. They have a 1 cubic inch relay that handles 30 amps; you should get one for the high beam and one for the low beam. Also get fuses and 10 gauge wires, and some connection lugs.

With me it was 7 days. Not the fastest, but I was a reasonable shipping time.

The Ford parts supplier had sent me the wrong switch. I took the broken switch out, sprayed it full of contact cleaner, worked it back and forth. Reinstalled switch, its been that way till couple of weeks ago when the switch totally failed. Pretty amazing it lasted this long, 210K miles. New switch is now in place, had to use solderless terminals to replace the burned plug. Does anyone know the replacement plug Part number?
