Cheap 428

Found an awesome price on a 428 crankshaft kit from another site. Autozone has standard journal 428 cranks with matching main and rod bearings for $240! part # 19420. Anyone ever heard of this or run one? This seems to good to be true...

no doubt hey...haha. At this price why wouldnt everyone build a 410 or 428. I was almost hesitant to post this to keep it a secret so I can get one before it ends or sells out. they have 410 pistons as well for 180$ for a set. Not sure if there stock replacement, forged or what compression...part #381np30. I think those are .030 over

Look at the casting numbers their web site lists 4U and 4UB those are 429 cranks not 428s, I guess I will pass. 428 Is 1U or 1UB or if you get real lucky 1UB $

I am going to order one just to have a look but I bet dimes to dollars its 429 and not 428 with the casting numbers they listed and the price. It the typical deal who ever wrote their parts books doesn't know fords at all.

4U is indeed a 429 crankshaft number. So I wouldn't bother ordering one. I remember a few years ago NAPA did sell 1U/1UB 428 cranks with a core charge. My guess people just ate the core charge and they are now out of stock. I forget the price but was a pretty good deal even with the core charge. Some part houses now carry the Scat cranks as an alternative for the 428. But I'd think they are hovering around the $500 mark. You can still find good 1U and 1UB cranks in various undercuts for $250-500 depending on size and condition. These on most of the popular FE engine sites. A few engine vendors carry them too.

Yep just like at one time NAPA offered a 428, that was a 360/390 (105) truck block that was bored .080" over to the 4.130" bore with either C8AE-H head or C4AE-G head depending on what they had in stock at time of build..The engine's were a built by a Reman company down in southside VA, This was just a few years ago..and god only knows how many blocks they punched out to get them to go 4.130" bore...Or maybe they punched out all the (105) blocks in hopes that none came back with to thin of walls? But they no longer offer the 428's....I believe they were right at $2800 exchange at the time..For a long block...

I went to the Autozone website and there wasn't much info on the crank. There has been other talk though:

What to do with the bottom end of my 390... - FordMuscle.com Forums

Read all 3 pages.

If they are 428 cranks, the price seems to indicate foreign origin and I have some doubts as to quality if that's the case.

All Autozone states is:

Features & Benefits:

Precision ground to aftermarket specifications and tolerances. All crankshafts are Micropolished using QPAC brand micropolishing equipment. Crankshafts are profilometer tested for finish quality and integrity. Ra standards maintained for all journal surfaces. All snout and flange threads inspected. Continuous quality control management through the entire production process.

Well alot of places have been that way for years since the kids are building tuner's now...But you just have to play there game...Tell them you have a 69 Mustang Mach 1 with a 428 CJ motor and your looking for XXXX part for it..They dont know what you have or what your trying to build..the computer just knows that its looking for 428 parts.. Most of the Parts guys nowdays couldnt tell a Mac truck engine from a Ford FE anyways..
