Define this data plate & axle photo

Here's the info data plate & picture of the rear axle from my buddies 77 F100; So many members stated that it couldn't have a vin number for axle code of 46J. Well I posted a photo of both the rear axle & vin plate as well. I believe it was either a dealer option or special addition from OEM.

This needs to go in the original thread

Even in my newly arrived 77 shop manual there isn't any mention of a axle code 46.

I am thinking this is a special code for an F100 with a Dana 44.

GVWR axle weight is high at 4700 lbs so that would make sense,

Dennis;
I'm not too sure of how I was going to put this into the originial posting; I had to get a co-worker to help post it.
I guess the only way I can determine the ration is doing the jack up the rear end speed mentality?
How does the GVWR plan a role in determining rear axle?
I knew I wasn't lossing my mine on the axle code 46J; just my hair!

It's the other way around.

The specs of the axle/frame/suspension,etc determine the GVWR.

In all my experiences involving Ford Truck I don't ever recall seeing an F-100 with a Dana axle.

I guess the 46J code & rear axle not being the typical 9''; it could be a OEM install rear end. Trust me once I saw the code I surely was confuse in my reference's to fine it and determine the ratio as well.

Just a quick note, there are two axle codes there, 46 is the Dana 44, J is for power steering / non tilt column.
