Talking 1973 F-250

The rear bumper on this truck extends. I cant get the pins that insert into the frame to retract. There is a pull handle that operates the release mechanism but I cant get it to budge. I have soaked it with W-D and still cant get any movement. Am I missing a step for retracting the pins or is because the bumper has not been operated for ever? At least the 4 years Ive owned it.

Just keep working at it to free up the mechanism. Remember it was semi-easy to do when new. Try some Kroil or PB-Blaster. You may have to completely take the mechanism apart.

Well here is a belated reply but what the heck. Two days of letting the PB-Blaster soak and a few taps on the lever pivot point, released the pins. Backed off the set bolts on the top of bumper extension and BAM....4 extra feet of bumper. Dont know if Ill ever use it but I like the fact that it works as designed.

rusty, I posted pictures of the bumper in my gallery. It will extend futher but this is as far as the wiring will strech out to. You can see the hole that the pin inserts into as well as the rollers that the bumper slides in and out on. I think its support for longer campers.
