smog...1985 I6 MT Flareside

SO, I bought my frineds 85 I6 MT 4 spd OD for 500 bucks. The truck is in great shape, no rust, etc. I knew it needed some work, but the skeleton of a good truck is there.

He (my friend) had some work done on the engine, not sure exactly what, my guess from having seen him spray starter fluid into it several times, was a carb rebuild and the shop he took it to is carb shop.

Well, the tranny was going out, I knew that, and had it rebuilt and new clutch thrown in for good measure.

I take it to get smogged (here in California) and it didn't pass. They couldn't tell me why, they just said it failed the function test.

I asked my buddy about it and he said it should have passed and they put a new catalytic converter in it.

I checked underneath, the cat is clean and new looking, but what the heck do I know. I think the vaccuum lines are disconnected, only I don't know what I'm looking for or wher to begin.

I plan on taking it to the same shop this weekend and seeing what it's going to take to get this thing smoggable. It runs great, although I'm sure it could get a little better mileage. I'm getting about 11mpg but that's mostly city stop and go, under 40 mph.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas of where to start, lemme know.

C

Get some crc g2p. Burn a whole tank with it in there. Run it empty. Get only 4 gallons of 93 and go test. This method worked for me with a 170000 22 year old 302 fi.
