Better airflow!?!? better airflow?? even if that were true its just a byproduct of having such big spaces to push all the manure through (back me up here Bob--------I think its time for another pic of your famous manure spreader)

I couldn't resist

There is always a heated debate whenever this subject comes up . It really doesn't matter, both designs are great, just the '48-50 is greater

Borrowed from Tryme's gallery:

Adds a whole new meaning to the washboard grill.

Picture a 51/52 in a similar situation....it would look like a wild and crazy shark attack

Too cool

That IS a great Pic.

I suspect what happened was that in '51, the Ford Designers watched a little too much Buck Rogers..........

They sure are cheaper! The 48-50 trucks are a dime-a-dozen. Every one has a 48-50 truck.

Try finding a 51/52.

Ford was apparently experimenting with the style from 48-50 until they came up with a better, well-advanced and more aesthetic design in 51.

Ilya,

I was wondering when you were going to jump in on this post

I think Ford redesigned the truck for '51 for the same reason Ford did most things, it just was somehow cheaper and it saved the company money. I don't think it had anything to do with "better, well-advanced and more aesthetic design"

I can't see how it saved any assembly time! I can't imagine working the production line and bolting together the header panel, lower valance, upper fender, and lower fender, which takes about 100 bolts and in inaccessible locations.

It had to be just to create more beauty!

I doubt Ford did many things for money reasons. If so why did they have a different grill every year from 52-73?

For the record.... I like the 51's and '52s a lot.......

I have a lot of knucklehead friends also. I like them... but given the chance, I never miss an opportunity to tell them how butt-ugly their vehicle is......

It's all part of the bravado...... You must do it ! And I know You do it too !
