what are you calling the whole assembly and what is busted in yours?

i sheared my spiders off and cracked the carrier, reused everything else, just flushed the case out real good with brakleen, drove 20 miles and changed fluid again and recleaned, its been a good 15k since i did it with no probs, nice and tight no noise, i can take pics of the carnage, i saved the pieces of what was left

The VSS broke off inside and damaged the gears and limited slip carrier.

I have never worked on this style differential, can you just unbolt the bearing caps and replace the carrier assembly without total removal and disassembly?

I forgot that I want to also change my ratio and would have to change the pinion gear...

you would have to change both, but why get ridof the 4.10's

The VSS damaged all that? Wow! I'll bet the VSS was a victim of another part going bad.

Yep, you can remove the carrier from another diff and just bolt it into your housing. You need to keep the spacers in the same location as you find them to maintain the right clearances. The ring and pinion gears must stay together in pairs. Changing the pinion gear is a little bit more complicated than just bolting it in the housing.

I forgot that I want to also change my ratio and would have to change the pinion gear...
That's going to get really expensive, you gotta change the front gears too.
