I noticed that when driving the steering wheel will catch from time to time. Scared the crap out of me the first time at 60mph.. I did find out it is the knuckle in the steering shaft between the steering gear box and the column. Just wondering if this is common?
Hello, if by knuckle you mean the round rubber disc that mounts the box to the shaft, yes that happens every now and then, you should be able to get one at any parts house, they usually have them on the "help-tree" in most parts houses. If it is a different part please type in and tell what it is and what truck you have.
Some people call that the disc assembly a rag joint, in case you need to explain it to a parts guy. I found them at NAPA years ago when the same thing happenned to a '68 F250 I had.

ok, I think you guys are talking about the piece that is down by the steering box. I'm talking about the part that is closer to the firewall of the truck. it is kina like a CV joint.
just looked at my 89 theres rag joint near steering gear, and another joint on end of steering colum has bolt going trough looks like bushed shaft coupling, dont know how that would bind up, maybe binding in ,colum? sometimes could be power steering going bad, or steering gear itsself, binding, dont know, hope fully somebody can give you better imput, let us know what it takes to fix it,
