390 w/c6 tranny to 351m with c4

I have a '66 ford f 100 with the 390. I also have a 1977 351m with a c4 tranny that has less than 1000 miles in a pos ranchero and am wondering how this would work. tranny mounts look the same but the engine mounts are different I am pretty sure, are there conversion kits for the mounts?? I have over 3000 in the rebuilds of the engine and trans so I want to put them to good use just not in the ranchero thanks

What is wrong with the Ranchero? Those are cool rigs...
That would be an interesting swap. I recommend that you go to the junkyard and look for a '77 to '82 Ford F150 truck that has a 351M or 400, and take as much as you can from it: Mounts, accessory brackets, etc. It would be easier to have a whole parts truck alongside if you could do it.

There may be someone here that has done this swap before and hopefully they will find this post and fill in the blanks for ya.
Have any pictures of your Fords to put in your gallery?
Welcome to FTE!

I'd try this down in the Slicks forum if you haven't already. More than likely you'll be able to make it work, but I would guess that you'll be changing driveshaft lengths at least. The exhaust might also be a mightmare. Are you sure the 351M is mated to a C4? A C6 would have been more common in trucks, but who know's, this is a Ranchero, more car than truck.

If memory serves, Ranchero's came with 351 Clevelands as well.

They came with 429's, so I don't think weight was an issue.

77-79 rancheros were based off the tbird/ltd II which had 351M/400's as an option. The C4 if it is, would have the D5OP-7976-BA bellhousing...which I would love to buy. But it could be a C6, or maybe even an FMX?

It should be an FMX or C6... is the bellhousing removeable?

You'll need all of the above mentioned items.

Welcome Aboard

Hey bbruno, Welcome To FTE.. IMHO,,I would rebuild the 390 from your 66 F100.
The FE block's are Great engines, and no Trying to find parts that will fit from this to that. It can be a Nightmare! But for the Engine Perches, If you can find some from a 73-79 F150 that came wit the 351m Get them Because they will fit in the 66 you have then just drop in the motor.

Engine perches are the same for 1973/79 F100/350 302 and 1977/79 F100/350 2WD 351M/400.

D7TZ-6028-B .. right engine perch

D7TZ-6029-B .. left engine perch.

Personally I'd leave it as a 390...the best engine Ford ever made. Rebuild yours and leave the myriad expensive engine/trans swap headaches behind.
