Thanks for the great pics and videos. I just installed a 292 in our 60 with my sons 2 weeks ago (front clip off so it was easy). We pulled out a 223 with a cracked block. Not running yet, need advice on the clutch linkage set up. Did you use the original 3 speed manual? I am not looking forward to installing the front clip.

Yup, I kept the 3-speed. The stock clutch is hydraulic, and is actually pretty easy to hook up.

Great post Koop. Are you having the muffler shop convert it to dual exhaust? What did the Y-block come out of and what heads are on the engine?

Congrads!

Yup, I have a rams-horn manifold to install on the driver's side, and I'm gonna have the muffler shop cap off the front of the passenger side manifold so it dumps to the rear.

The motor was in a '58 F-100 when the guy before me got it ... but as far as I can tell, the casting number points to a '57 model year. The heads are ECZ-C which indicate '56. So the motor definitely wasn't original to the '58 ... it had been bored oversize and then completely worn out. This is its second rebuild.

You are doing a fantastic job on the truck. The Y blocks were very unique.
Keep up the good work.

Nice job. The engine sounds awesome, and the truck looks cool.

Be sure to add some STP 4cyl (Blue bottle) oil treatment to the crankcase.

You must be from upstate.

Long Island, actually. Not that many old-car enthusiasts around here.

As for the STP stuff, I don't need that yet ... I had a few gallons of the old-formula Chevron Delo around.

Smart move. I'd hate to see a fresh y-block ruined.
