1989 Ford F150 5.8 L Timing Problem.

My 1989 Ford F150 5.8 L stalled at a red light a couple of days ago and wouldn't start again. My husband thinks that he has everything fixed except for the timing. However he is having problems adjusting it. Is there anyone who could explain exactly how you correctly adjust the timing? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Pull out the SPOUT connector-shorting bar by the distributor.
Hook timing light on number one spark plug wire.
Loosen the distributor hold down bolt.
Start the engine and turn the distributor until the pointer points to 10* BTDC.
Tighten the hold down bolt and recheck.
Put the SPOUT back in and remove the timing light.

This says 5.0 but your 5.8 is the same.
