Hkusp,
Some stations higher in PA than NY, yes.
just sat (9/29) 3.11@ gibson flying J.
most in the binghamton area are over 3.20
personally they are all pirates!
The price of fuel (which causes ALL things to go up) could be controlled simply by De-listing it and all NECESSITIES (Grain, Cattle, etc.) from the STOCK MARKETS. It is all driven by speculators (paper money). The people would not know what to do with several thousand barrels of oil or gas or diesel. They just speculate on it and we pay them to do it.
I am saving 30-50% on fuel cost by mixing filtered and processed oil (motor, hydraulic, transmission fluid, etc.) with my diesel. More BTU's than Bio or Veggie oil and WAY CHEAPER AND SAFER TO MAKE. Put a web page and video on the subject on our site Archers-Friend.com if interested. Or email me.
wow old thread. How are you using motor and tranny oil to make diesel. Is it similar to the process of biodiesel with a catalyst. Subscribing to this thread

Using used oil is much cheaper, faster, and above all safer (no chemical to blow up or glycerin to dispose of). Our web site (Archers-Friend.com) has a page and video on the process. See the Alternative Fuel Link on the navigation bar.

The problem with converting used oil is that in the long run there isn't that much available. From an automotive standpoint, and on my PSD, I use about 500 gallons (at 10 mpg pulling 5,000 miles) for every 4 gallons (16 quarts) of oil (if I change every 5,000 miles). Although we could use this additional 4 gallons, we need a lot more.
We should use others resources available including WVO, but even that has limits far below what we need to power our vehicles and our nation. So in my opinion, EVERY resource needs to be tapped, including more drilling, coal to diesel conversion, methanol, nuclear and more. It just may be that high prices are what we needed to kick us in the butt and get us working on solving our energy problems instead of just complaining and blaming. It might also solve the another big problem we have of our financing Arab terrorists with $130/barrel oil.
I find it funny how in the beginning of this thread, Diesel was 3.14 a gallon, last september. Now it's 4.50 plus. Imagine if diesel were 3.14 a gallon again, how cheap we'd "think" we'd be getting it for!

There used to be a adage commenting on human psychology titled "How to cook a frog" As the saying goes, you don't just throw a live frog into boiling water 'cause he'll just jump out. You put the frog in cool water and slowly raise the temperature. He'll just sit there until he is cooked!
Same thing is true with us. When the price of fuel goes up fast we all complain and demand action. But if it goes up more slowly, we'll all just sit there until we are cooked! We should have done something about this problem years ago and we didn't. Thirty years ago after the first "oil embargo", it was clear to everyone that we had a major problem. But the embargo ended, prices went back to more or less normal, we didn't bother to do anything and overall prices have only risen slowly ever since. Hopefully, we'll respond to the problem now that it's become an emergency. If we do something now, we may still have time to save ourselves from being cooked.
