You guys have to take it easy on aklim. He lives in 20 sq miles surrounded by reality. It is a frickin isthmus!!! jk aklim, I had to.
What I don't understand why fuel is more than gas now. Back when I was a kid it was over a quarter cheaper. (At least we get better milage than the gassers)
I am with Izzy. If there is record demand why isnt there record production...

Yeah, wait and see how they are gonna go up cuz of Lorenzo down there in Mexico. Its not even affecting our plants, but they are already talking about jacking up the prices.

Then another guy want to at a .50 tax to fuel to help fight global warming. DOH!

Reminds me of the last hurricane that was expected to hit here. The price of fuel jumped .30-.50 over night and urging everyone to fill up "just in case". When the storm hit down in mexico, prices went back down the next day. You cannot say that is not price fixing. Any other businesses pulling that cr*p would be in a heep of trouble.

Yes, I love how they can overnight raise the cost 15 cents when there has not been a new delivery. I can understand if the pumps had a truck come to refuel the tanks but when the station just jumps up the cost for no real reason it pisses me off. And as for the cost of #2 compared to gas. All this summer (here) it never has been any cheaper than about 8 cents a gal. as compared to gas. And that was when the cost of gas went up and diesel didnt change. And from around the middle of aug on diesel has been climbing and gas has been hanging the same or a few cents less. Not to mention the fact that the just the mention of the word "hurricane" can make it jump 40 cents without it even being close to the US.

And as for the Supply/ demand and profit subject. If they are having such a hard time keeping up with production even tho the chart showed they have produced more in the past. Maybe they should do like most buisnesses do Expand? I have yet to see a buisness that was making money and needed a larger warehouse or shop NOT expand to meet the demand they are being asked to do.

Diesel Fuel 3.30 a gallon here now. What ticks me off is how diesel goes up overnight, then drops a penny a week.

Stupid tree huggers, I say we impose a tax on those little fuel efficent cars they drive, a 2K tree hugger tax, for being a damn hippy.

It all boils down to this... the petrol industries are the only one that make more money by running their operations as ineffeicent. The more breakdowns, fires, blow-ups, storms, hangnails, PMS, bad scheduling etc. that they can blame the lack of supply on, the more money they can make. Ok so harvest is in full swing right now and winter heating is coming on. So what. It's not like this is something new that hasn't over and over for the last....years, its just another excuse..to line pockets. They know the gravey train is coming to an end and their grabbing all the public and bend-over and take at one time. If other companies ran their business like this people would get pissed off and not buy their product, their company would go under, but these guys have us by the short hairs and they know it.....Well that's my rant....

Speculators, (Futures Traders) will drive the price up. If they think (wrongly or not) that there is going to be a demand, (hurricanes, wars, cold spells, low production, refinery troubles, etc), they will start buying up contracts, thereby raising the price.

If the problems do not manifest they end up taking a loss when their contracts are worth less than they paid..but when they get a little panic buying going, and get out on time, the smart ones can win even when there is no actual problem.

Unfortunately, nowadays with the rest of the world (especially China and India) using more oil, creating additional drains on oil producers, the prices seem to just continually climb.

....and don't forget that some people just won't let us drill, or build new refineries here in the good ole USA.

Prices range from 3.14-3.29 here in upstate NY. I usually run across the border to PA
where it is a little cheaper.

I dont think we can blame the tree huggers for this mess. I think its a fabricated story big oil has made up that envirnmental concerns have restricted new refineries. If you think about it the only ones who benefit from more refineries are the consumers. There is no profit to big oil in building in more capacity and driving down cost at the pump to you and me. Its a fake arguement they have dreamt up to shift blame away from thier greed. IMHO of course what do you think about that?

They can't expand in this country. No one will let them build a refinery. they haven't built a new refinery since the late 1970's I believe.

HELL NO!!!! Not when it's 10% of 100 Billion (that's BILLION with a B!!!) in sales a single friggin' quarter!! So cut us some slack, quit cutting production, and quit raising prices unnecessarily that we have no choice but to pay, and make 8 Billion instead of 10 or 12!!! Is that too much to ask for cripes sake? And why are you defending them? Do you not pay the same amount? Didn't you like filling your tank for $30 a week instead of $100?? Jeez, it's not like any Congress (D or R) will do a damned thing about it. Record profit means record tax revenues. Who did they think they were fooling with that ridiculous charade with the oil guys answering questions on TV? Spare me the sob story of the poor oil companies and their "piddley" 10%...

I know I said I was done, but that's just a silly argument. NOW I'm done...

Joe
