when i was cleaning my truck the other day, I came across this tag and dont know what its for. the numbers are 71 at very top, then D7DE, then 12127, then CA, then 6L 16(very bottom). can anyone tell me what this tag is from?????? and what it all means??????

 

what was the tag attached to ?? The D7DE is a 1977 casting number...Im not sure about the 2nd D but the E is for engine For example, on my FE's intake the casting number is C5AE...1965 A= cars(automobiles) and E is engine...
The 6L16 could be the casting date possibly..6=1976, L=November( I dont believe I was used in this numbering setup) and 16 would be the actual day of the month...if theres 1 or 2 dots right after this, thats the shift it was cast on..

But this is all hypothetical...what kind of part are we talking about..a door tag or a component taglike engine or are these the numbers on the casting of a major assebly or cast piece...

Well, 12127 is the basic part number for a distributor & the D7DE is a 1977 off of a Granada. Or at least thats the basic design number. It was most likely attached to a duraspark distributor, would be my guess anyway. Not sure what the other numbers mean.

ok. I remember where it came from now. i had bought a duraspark dizzy for the duraspark goodies. must be where its from. thanks guys.
