5.4 3v air filter foam seal

Just replaced the original air filter in my '05 f250 5.4. After loosening
the 2 clips and pulling the tray foward and removing the filter...I
noticed there wasn't much left of a foam seal (similar to foam weather-stripping) around the front of the tray that mates against the air filter
housing. There appears to be a small gap...say 1/4 inch or so between
the front of the tray and where it mates against the air filter housing.
Doesn't look like its allowing any flow from the engine compartment
to get past the filter element. Was wondering if anyone else has
encountered this and what (if anything) they did about it. Guess I
can find some foam weather stripping and "cut and paste" it to work.
Don't know if dealer would sell it without selling the whole tray.

Thanks for any info,
george

That would be covered under the warranty if you are still in it. Otherwise if it isn't on the engine side, i.e. air would bypass the filter and go to the engine, of the filter I wouldn't worry about it.

VORTMAX... I had the same thing happen to me. I found some weather-stripping I had laying around the house, cut it to length and used contact cement to hold it in place. It actually worked better than that cheap stuff the factory used. Good Luck!

This must be a common problem with this foam material they are using. I changed my filter the other day and noticed my foam was deteriorated also. I am going the weatherstrip route also.
