You have to compare apples to apples. Someone who has a f250 with 3.73's and drives it at 60mph is not going to get the same milage as someone who has a f350 with 4.30's and drives it at 75mph. Its a truck did you buy it to haul or to complain about mileage? I bought mine to tow my trailer when required that and I love the fit and finish. It is a mans truck. Like my 4 year old daughter says suck it up princess. I agree that there may be differences in mileage but compare correctly don't just complain about the MPG. All the details are required.

When I first got my truck, it was running in the 8 MPG range empty. That has gradually increased to around 11 MPG empty. If I really baby it, (never go over 60 MPH and never let the boost exceed 20 lbs.) I can get a little over 12 MPG.
Now comes the good part. I bought the truck to pull. I pull stock trailers, horse trailers, and a 34' fiver. My fiver scales out at a pretty even 10,000 lbs, and pulling that trailer hard, I've never seen less than 8 MPG, averaging around 9-10. That's the beauty of the 4.30 rear end. It hurts the mileage empty, but you can get netter mileage loaded.
If you bought this truck to drive to the grocery store, you may not be happy. But if you bought it to do what it was made for, there's not a better choice on the planet.

I agree with you 100%. This truck is a worker. I have the same truck, short bed. I have only 1300 miles on it, but am averaging 11 MPG except on the interstate in cruise at 65MPH I am at 17.5-18.5 empty. If I am towing the TT, at 10,000 I am at 9.5 to 11.
I love everything about the truck. It is an absolute dream to pull with. It sure gets a lot of attention at the campgrounds!

Guy's:
I haven't got my 450 as of yet (by Oct.11), I have a question about the 6.4. In the Ford sales literature, in small print at the bottom of the page, it says "the 6.4 is detuned for 6speed and 4:88 geared trucks". Why are they doing that ? I'm getting the Auto w/4:30's. Is that why the MPG is not so good ?

I suspect its only a matter of time before we see these units making a comeback on the big fords.
