any way of checking for good heads??

I am rebuilding a motor for a buddy of mine. he has a 90 f250 4x4 5.8. We found a guy selling a 90 5.8 with only 100k for 200$ so we got it. we started to tear it appart and everything looked really clean. is there any way to tell if the heads need to be rebuilt?? i am taking them appart to install different valve springs, and was just going to lap the valves. what do you guys think???

Thanks

Well with the valves out, you can see if they are sloppy in the guides. Also take a good look at the valves, and seats. If they are all pitted or warn, you will need more then lapping.
