Broken DipStick Tube

'01 F150 4x4 4.6L

My dipstick tube broke just above the the mounting bracket, I was able to remove the bolt that supports the tube but I can't seen to get the tube out of the oil pan.

Is there a trick? I have a new tube coming tomorrow and was getting ready to install it.

Does the tube just press into the pan with a o-ring?

Thanks for any help!

ou can bend the broken tube to get it out but the new part will not install behind the maniflod.

I had the same problem and elected to do it right by removing the exhaust manifold, not too bad of a job. I pulled the inner fender to get good access.
I ended up with about $135.00 in parts to do it this way.

I have read on here where other guys cut the bottom of the dipstick tube off to get it to fit behind the manifold.
Good Luck....

the tube just presses into the pan. probably has some type of glue or loctite on it. on fix is to get a hose about 2 inches long and slide over the lower section, and push the upper section into it so the hose makes a union.--- if you want to get the old tube out, you can normally grab with vice grips and twist sideways to break the glue joint. i would look close at how to get it back in. maybe cut the new tube and put in two pieces, with the hose?

Yea, this was a job, the old one would not come lose with vice grips or anything. I got to the point where there was nothing left to grab on to so I used a long rod and grinded the end to a point and hammered to remains into the oil pan then fished it out with a magnet.

Getting the new one back in was just as bad, I figured after trying the exhaust manifold had to be removed and I was not going that route so at $12 for the tube I made a few adjustment with my lead hammer and it went in. The top in not in the exact same position but close enough.
