Hey guys. I was just wondering if anyone has kept the stock turbo on and when they rebuilt it/replaced it. If you've rebuilt it, what is that job like?
Thanks.
Ive Rebuilt mine just a few weeks ago rebuilding is simple no special tools needed took about 20 minutes, but taking the turbo off and putting it back on turned out to be a real pain in the butt.

Im not sure how many miles were on it since last rebuild, but I just rebuilt it at 315,000mi I got the truck at 304,000mi. All the bolts that hold it on and the bolts on the exhaust flange are extremely tight and hard to get to. The two rear pedestal bolts are the hardest to get in and out because it takes a couple of different length wrenches to remove them. And you cant see the one its just by feel. It doesnt need rebuilding unless you have a chipped compressor wheel or an extreme amount of shaft play, a little is normal. You dont want to do it unless you have to or if u want to upgrade I upgraded my exhaust housing only because I had to rebuild because of a chewed up comp wheel.

I have 256k on mine and as far as I know it has never been touched, like Jboard said unless it is chipped or if you are upgrading then there you probably don't need to worry about it.
btw--Jboard why did you go with a SD wheel on yours?? I thought our wheel was a better design??
Alright. Thanks Joe. I have just rolled into 170K, and driving through a dang city where everyone is in too big a hurry has made me really aware of the pros of the turbo.
Yea I used a Superduty Wheel cause it was cheaper. I cant feel a difference between the two just sounds a little different. it was only 15.00 instead of 88.00 for stocker. And im at college so I tried to stick cheap.

I hear you on the college thing. Trying to park my truck on campus in downtown Atlanta is... interesting, to say the least.
Will definitely have to remember the Superduty wheel is cheaper.
