I would like to give my truck a fairly major tune-up. I plan to change plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter and clean the throttle body intake. Does anyone have other suggestions of things I should do such as replacing oxygen sensor or things of that nature. I don't just want to do the bare minimum so I am open to suggestion. Thanks.

 

watch the cleaning on the t body.
i have told not to do it unless you have the machine that will do the whole system.
the rest is easy and i strongly recomend the o sensor.
i waited till 100K on the o sensor and can really tell the difference in my towing.

 

I would think his being OBDI the O2's wouldn't help at all, I assume yours was OBDII with the 4 sensors. Just make sure you use TB cleaner and it will be fine.

 

I've cleaned my 1990 throttlebody several times when it wouldn't idle smoothly and have had no problems. I just used the stuff in a spray can. Changing the fuel filter is a good idea even though the manual and the parts guys told me it was good for the life of the truck. I guess they didn't expect it to last 365000 kilometers (over 200000 miles) and still seems pretty good. I still tow a 25 foot fifth with no plans for a new motor yet.
