Oil Pan in 85 f350

I want to attempt to change my oil pan and gasket in my 85 f350. can I just loosen motor mounts and jack motor up and put 2x4's under mounts and let back down. is there anything else that needs to be done. anything that needs to be disconnected. also where do I jack it up from?

You can jack it up on the oil pan itself, as long as you put a board or piece of plywood that spreads the weight to the vertical edges of the pan.

You may need to loosen the fan shroud, exhaust, and turn the engine by hand a certain amount to clear the crankshaft. I believe guys on here who have done it said they have to lower the pan, then reach up over top of it and loosen the oil pickup tube before it will come completely out.

pan gasket

cant you just loosen the pan and use a rubber oil pan gasket and stretch it a little from the bottom of the pan up instead of taking the pan off

U can if u lower the pan enough weave the gasket under the crank and rods inside the pan threw the front. If you stretch it you might have a leak remaining if you create a weak spot in the gasket. I HIGHLY recomed the 1 peice rubber gasket. SOOOO EASY!
