Scanner Idea

So I read over and over on this site that you need a scanner to detect a problem. So I had this idea that maybe we could collectivly buy one, put it under the watch of TJ or Neal if they would be willing to manage it and when one of us has a problem the person who needs it would be responsible for shipping cost to them and back to the manager. I know it involves a certain amount of trust but were all good guys, Right?
What do you think?

It may be a better idea if a few guy in the same vicinity get together, chip in for a scanner to share among themselves. What happens if it, as a "nation wide community scanner" and it needs repair. Who foots the bill? What happens if it gets lost/stolen?

Just some more to think about.

Hmmmm, I stand corrected. I was under the impression that a scanner was a self contained, hand held unit that you plug into the socket beneath the dash.

If it's computer soft ware, I don't know if it can be used on more than one CPU. Can it?

Thats correct. an AE. Upon furtrher thought today maybe 20, 25 guys pitch in 10-15 bucks to share one. Who ever has it at the time is the administrator and is responsible for sending it on so no one person has to foot the burden. All information is shared with the site so we all learn how to use one. not much to break infact can problaby copy the software for each persons computer and then just have to send the connection.

i would want the ford ngs but preferably the wds, neither of which is going to be mail friendly, if you were going to spend the money on a scanner for a ford vehicle then you might as well get the one designed for it, the wds will do things you couldnt imagine

new an ngs is about 3000, a wds is over 10,000, ebay you can get them cheap but for the do-it youtselfer i would buy an NGS, they go for 2-400 bucks and come with all the cables and both cards to do all fords, lincolns and mercurys, cars and trucks. the ngs will do anything except re-program pcm's

A quick look on ebay shows 2 NGS Ford scanners. 1 for $610.00 )present bid) and has only 1 card of the 4, and the other is the scanner unti only and it needs to be refurbished by NGS, which the seller claims that NGS will do for free. that still elaves the missing cards for both in question. The refurb unit is currently at 10 bucks with a $14.00 ship charge. How much are the cards to go with and can they be purchased seperately?
