Cool Oil cooler cause EGR cooler failure?

My 2004 6.0 PSD is in the shop again. First time they replaced the EGR cooler and EGR valve. Now 1800 miles later they say the oil cooler caused a hole in the EGR cooler and EGR valve failure. Is that possiable or is the service manager trying to avoid the real problem? He also says he has never seen one blow a head gasket.

When I went to get the truck it was covered with standing oil inside and out. They left nuts off the module on the driver side valve cover. Left a bolt out of the intake, and twisted the fuel line closed at the fuel filter housing. I have inspected it four times and always find something missing. Anyone know any real techs around Greenville/Wilson Noth Carolina?

sounds like crappy techs. But an oil cooler can be very related to an egr cooler failure. The hot exhaust gas, I think, flows through the oil cooler first and clogs it then compromises(sp) egr cooler causes it to get too hot. something like that. correct me if im wrong people. lookin' to learn. goodluck with your rig.

Liven--I sent you a PM. Sounds like your dealership doesn't have a qualified tech or they don't wanna really fix your truck. I'd make them repair everything they messed up and then pull it out.

the oil cooler passages that coolant flows through can get restricted and starve the egr cooler for coolant which will cause repeat egr cooler failures. usually when i have a bad egr cooler failure i also find a oil cooler restriction as well.

sorry about the bad service. people like that make my job alot harder than it has to be.

I am still waiting for them to replace the fuel line and intake bolt. Think I will call back today. Just mad they dont care for a $30,000 vehicle any better than they have.

By the way the original problem both times was it was pushing coolant out the degas bottle.

Would a engine coolant filter mitigate the oil cooler blockage?

no the coolant itself is the problem for the most part. the silicate in the coolant will cause deposits when mixed with hard water and even hard water will just by itself.

Would the waterless coolant help? Seems that its higher boil temperature and lack of H2O would make this part of the problem all but go away.

I purchased my delete pipe from Elite Diesel and installed it today. I have better Turbo boost and MPG have risen 2 MPG around town. I left alone the EGR and the Cooler. The Delete pipe blocks off the exaust and removes the restrictor in the Turbo up-pipe. What a nice performance up-grade..Look at there website for more information...

Still waiting for the dealership to replace the fuel line they bent. They have had it for 2 weeks now. Getting kinda tired of the 92 Explorer (My stump jumper). They say Monday but we will see. Anyone know any good shops around Greenville NC?

i dont believe there are any different oil coolers, but the cooler should come together except for the filter adaptor and egr cooler outlet.

Livenamoment,

Contact Matt at Spartan Diesel (a sponsor here) as a tow bill to Hendersonville, NC (or a short drive if the 6.0 is driveable) could save a lot of heartache.

At a very minimum he knows what he is doing and will shoot straight w/ you as to the cause/fix even if you can't make it too him.

Amp

OOPS, my bad, your in G-ville NC, not SC. That's quite a ways further than what I thought after 1st reading. It would still be worth a phone call though. No wonder your having such a hard time finding a good tech. All that alcohol flowing at ECU has probably tainted the water supply down there!
