First, if you're running a chip or tuner, you don't need the BB mod (FPR Shim). The chip or tuner should make the adjustment.

Second, 45 - 60 PSI at idle, at the schrader valve, with a chip, is on the low side of the normal range. Normal pressure range is roughly 40 - 80 PSI at idle. You don't want to go over 80 PSI with a stock fuel system. If the needle is bouncing between 45 and 60, then your pressure is probably closer to 52 - 53 PSI at idle. Add the lowest reading to the highest reading and divide by two to give you an average estimate for your starting point.

I'm thinking the chip isn't working properly.

I suggest removing the chip and rechecking your fuel pressure. If it's still low, add a BB as stated and recheck your fuel pressure. There is also a screen you'll want to clean. I unbolted my FPR to clean it. You can drain the fuel filter bowl and do it that way, too.

Use a cotton swab, with the cotton removed. I prefer the paper-material shaft, but you can try the plastic one if you want. Gently use the shaft to wipe away the crud on the screen.

Adding a BB and cleaning this screen should give you a slightly smoother idle, better throttle response, and an overall happier engine. I gained 0.5 mpg after doing this.

Search for 'FPR Shim' and you should find plenty of info with pictures. You should also find info on how to clean the screen.

Let us know how it goes.

The chip can not change your fuel pressure as the pump is manual pump not controlled by PCM

pj check your fuel pressure with a stick style gauge an if your fuel press. is over 60psi then you don't need to shim it and the way that your gauge is jumping that normal.

step 1: buy the materials shown, a- resistors, b- box of spade terminals, c- electrical tape

step 2 get the resistor out of the pack as shown here

step 3- fold each end over to make for a good crimp point as shown here

step 4- put 1 male spade on one end of resistor and one female spade on other end of resistor as shown here

step 6, wrap resistor in tape to prevent any shorts or excessive vibration.
no picture needed for that one
step 7, cut signal wire for icp. while looking at connector it would be the mouth
of the smily face as shown here

step8- strip each end of your wire and crimp one male spade to one end, crimp one female spade to the other end. this allows for swapping different size resistors or putting it back to stock with no other modification needed, no picture needed for this either
step 9- drop the resistor in place as shown here

the mod is done in less then 5 minutes, if you want to make a 14.7 or 15.6 mod then you simply crimp a 4.7k or 5.6k inline with the 10k and the time goes up to a total of 6 minutes, try it out and enjoy the boost in performace for a grand total of 5 dollars, each pack of resistors is .99, pack of terminals is 3.00 for the good ones
Hey Joe, where did the pictures go?

Yeah I was looking for the pictures the other day, but since this is part of the Tech / Mods sticky it would be nice if the pics were up there for anyone else to see as well. I guess they are right here now!

Thank you Mr. Stone, you're so smooth!!

I got the fuel bowl mod one coming up as well. Just need a few hours to sit down and put it together.
